The MR2 rack is not right hand drive. When located on the MR2, the steering is in front of the cross member. Yours is mounted behind the cross member. The difference is front steer versus rear steer on the knuckles. This is what is wrong. It changes the direction of the rack when mounted on the wrong side of the pivot.

I saw that too, but I’ve seen guys use mr2 racks on ae86’s and they didn’t change the steering knuckles. So maybe there’s different years for the mr2 steering racks? I don’t know, I’m reading about it now and still don’t understand why other guys mr2 racks work as a rear steer.

Came here to say front vs rear rack. Assuming you don't want to buy another rack, "all you gotta do" is swap the rack location (easier said than done). Otherwise get a techno toy tuning steering rack. Manual, all new, but is $400.

A rack and pinion is just like a rear axle/diff. Flip it so the right tierod is on the left and visa verse and that reverses it. Assuming everything else still lines up after that.

I'm sorry brother but when that rack turned the opposite direction I LMAO! That's something I would do! I feel your pain with the snow, we got 20" in 24 hours here in southern Ontario last week too. Do yourself a favour and put a pellet stove in your garage. I put one in this season and it works awesome! I can heat the garage the whole day on less than one $10 bag of pellets!

It depends on the mounting location weather it pushes the front of spindles or the back of the spindles . If it was mounted on the back of the spindles it would correct the steering issue.

If you are trying for manual rack it is for sure a first gen mr2 rack and steering joint you use and a mk3 supra intermediate shaft and you can use the inner and outer power steering tie rods also the adapter bushing . Not real sure how you got a rack for a rhd but I know for sure this work because I have one with this setup and an ls swap.

From memory a couple of options for brake upgrades, the SW20 MR2 is one, FC RX7 is another but needs the rotors drilled to suit the stud pattern. And also the S13 or as called over there the 240SX , you can upgrade the S13 brakes with 300ZX brakes

Check to see if the mr2 has the tie rods in the front or rear of the knuckle. If it’s opposite, then that would be the reason it’s turning incorrectly

Yep! Figured it out, seller sold it as a 85-89 mr2 rack but it’s actually a 92-95 rack. In 92 they switched to front steer instead of rear steering like the ae86. Damn thing looks identical

I almost did the same thing with my nissan minitruck project. I was gonna put an early Tacoma rack in it but the Tacoma rack mounts behind the crossmember and the spindle/tie rod attachment point is behind the kingpin. If I were to install it in the Nissan like the pitman/idler arm/steering box set up does originally, in front of the crossmember with tie rod attachment point forward of kingpin center, it would do the same thing you have going on, opposite direction of the wheel rotation. I’m going to find a forward of xmemeber mount rack likely bmw 3series. Orr well, shit, thanks to your misfortune I now know an mr2 rack will work for my application as well:) man that’s a bummer to find out after the fact tho:(

I'm hoping you are putting an N2 kit on the car but that's probably not what is happening. I got my rebuild kits for the calipers from Rockauto. You gotta get the ones for the RWD Corolla not the FWD one. You can depower the original rack. You can use front control arms from a 1985 Celica GTS to gain camber. The 86 community is kinda elitist but 14" look the best on small 80's cars IMO. I sold mine and bought an RX-7 to hack up. Would be cool to see you do a first gen Eagle Talon, NOBODY puts body kits on those cars.

let that steering shaft float inside the sleve part you are going to wish you had that space if you ever get in a front accident and that shaft needs to compress before the steering wheel is in your face. use a set screw to hold it in place it will give if it needs too in a compression incident
