Casey, you did a great job on the truck working with only $1000! I would love to see what you could do with a slightly higher budget, like say $5000. I think that’s an amount that a normal guy or girl would be willing to put into a hot rod and have something nice to drive and enjoy. Not low buck, but I HATE these builds where the engine costs more than my house! Keep it real!

I built a rotted 49' fleetline in 2 weeks several years ago. It was mostly rust on the underside . I ended up chassis swapping it onto a S10 chassis I shortened and channelled the body 5" IIRC. I would do a G body El camino body frame next time. I have built a couple of these and currently am working on a 50' Pontiac fastback that I clipped with a Camaro clip. It now has a 454/4spd/ posi rear and should be on the road this summer. Its built as a sleeper. Looks like a mild resto with 500hp under the hood. The original frames on these fleetlines are real beefy if they are not rusty. I would keep the stock frame, and MII it, and a set of TCI lowering springs in the back. If you really want to cut it up, clip it with a G body or 1st gen camaro clip. Do a $3-5k budget to have it on the road as a nice car - runs and drives nice, reliable, and nice interior. Go full traditional, as it is not very expensive, and cool as hell. On these cars, less is more, so nosing, decking, dechroming, will save you a bundle in not having to get chrome done or find good parts. A mild chop looks really good on these cars. The best way I have seen is to sink the entire roof and trunk together to keep the same roofline curve on the fastback. You can get about 2.5 inches this way which looks about perfect on these cars. Another good thing is is you sink the trunk lid, you end up cutting out the rust at the back of the trunk panel. You cut it at the bottom to keep the trunk lip and drop the entire thing down. You will have to skin the area between the trunk and the outer quarter, but it ends up giving the cars a cool finned look. If you are really going for it, this is a good time to put in 55' Cad lights in the back, or Packards and extend the quarters back. A set of early 50's Oldsmobile or buick headlights makes a cheap and super trad touch. A solid singe stage maroon paint job or similar to keep in the era would be perfect, and set it off with some cream colored pinstripes. The car needs to be set low. A visor is key to the looks, as well as the wheels and tires. This was basically how I would build the next one. lol
@scottwebster76133 жыл бұрын
I have always wanted one of these. Absolutely love this body style. I've wanted to do one of these with a corvette drivetrain. Something you can just push around curves and have a ball. I really want to get in on the raffle for this one!!!!!!!

Full blown Kustom!! Use the 51s frame. Show everyone you can build anything in a garage. How to not get overwhelmed by the mear size of the project. How to look at a car and think outside the box. Change taillights headlights gauge cluster. Whole dash for that matter and of corse bag it.. You will have content easy for a year and a badass raffle car at the end. You don't need all the fancy tools and $100k budget to build a nice clean car.
@willburn17413 жыл бұрын
The Pontiac continued: split manifold for a nice set of dual exhaust and cruise brother! Several of us back in the day had cruisers like this. A 66 Biscayne 6 cylinder was mine, my Buds had qudradoor 55 Chevy's, 68 Impala's, Plymouth Fury's and even a Big block Impala Wagon. We'd like pile everybody in with a cooler of beer and just cruise. I didn't matter where we went! It was a simpler time my friend. It really cool to see that you respect that. I'm sure what ever you choose will be cool because Casey has that gift of seeing what a old car could be. And he can make it happen. Cheers and Beers! Build on buddy!

Isn't a Chevy S10 the correct chassis swap size? Whatever Chevy donor fits track wise. You can lengthen or shorten a frame. Works for me. Build a nice car with paint. Not unlimited budget but make it a finished looker. No time limit on the build. I hate that. Thanks Casey. 👍😎🍺

Lead Sled... Chopped and channelled with an amazing home custom paint job (ghost Flames, Lace and flake roof) Flame Thrower Exhaust pipes. Forget spending a fortune making it bounce (just keep it stiff and low) spend the time doing real lead filling, Frenching and maybe a pimped out interior (crushed velvet) a custom dash and steering wheel. I would like to see how those Chrome Coatings work on your old bits... or how you craft on something from a different vehicle. That roof needs so much work... why not find another and make something perfect from the two.

The $1,000 build was sooo super tight and you pulled it off! I would like to see an affordable Resto Mod maybe under $3,000, or even under $5,000.... My big question is what kind of donor chassis are you looking at? You're the expert but I feel like this one should be fast and turboed. I have NO idea what kind of motor / chassis to use but something with balls like a 2JZ with a over sized turbo. Yes I know its a over popular motor but it's the only one I can think of. I know my buddy has a older 90s Tbird Turbo Coupe, but that's just a 4cy I would like to see a turbo inline 6 turbo, not sure of good cheap donor cars, let me know if you have some ideas on what that could be.
