Man am I glad I saw this video, my mastiff has soft tissue sarcoma on 3rd toe,they graded it at 2, and had dirty margins,vet wants to amputate toe,one of the weight bearing toes,he's 212 lbs,when they did surgery to remove tumor he had some kind of incident during anathesia, where temp went to 103, so now they need to find different meds to use.Wasnt really explained thoroughly to us as to exactly what happened,could you be willing to maybe explain what you think may have happened and if amputation is the best option,our pet just turned 3,thankyou

Our dog recently had a terrible reaction to vaccines...that evening wobbly, hind leg paralysis, shaking...it took a few days to bounce back. The day after vaccines we found a cyst like lump that had popped up very fast...we know it was not there prior to vaccine day...on the upper ankle...not a vaccine site. After removal path came back sarcoma. I am wondering if it is a vaccine related sarcoma due to the issues all surrounding vaccine day

10 yr old pug has soft tissue sarcoma on his thigh which was diagnosed by fine needle biopsy. She said two options we can do a surgical biopsy first which he has to be put under for so they know how aggressive it is, or just take it out first. If it has to be removed anyway, why is the second biopsy needed? Is this necessary?

Hi, Thank you for the excellent explanation. It was simple and very clear. Could you make a similar about mastocima? I have a dog with a soft tissue sarcoma, very aggressive high grade, which is a big tumor located on his bottom. I would like to ask what are the chances of survival? Is there any natural therapy that can help?

Hi Dr. Thank you for this video. It has been extremely helpful. Question- at the 6:30 mark in the video, you talk about how radiation therapy can reduce the chance of local recurrence on a dirty margin from 75% to 25%. Is that percentage based on the trunk area? What would the percentage be of a local recurrence on a dirty margin from the front forearm with radiation therapy if it was graded at a 1 (tumor taken out on forearm halfway between wrist and elbow)?

Hi Doctor. My dog had a 7lbs cancerous tumor removed 5 years ago. This week, we learned she has leiomyosarcoma (after a spleen removal) in/ on her abodmen. The vet wants to offer chemotherapy (Carboplatin or Palladia). After watching your video, I don't think it would make sense. Please confirm or offer another opinion. Thank you!

Hi I was wondering if there is a risk of rupturing a soft tissue sarcoma when a biopsy is performed? If so how would it effect its margins? Thanks
@VetDojo2 жыл бұрын
Unlikely to rupture it during surgery and it should not affect margins if it did.

Butter Bear's Oncologist want him to have front amputation. His is right at the elbow It's not bothering him that's why I'm wondering could he stay like this for a while it was discovered and removed in December and came back again in March It's not ulcerative but the doc said it could metastasize as more time goes by

My dog was diagnose with grade 1 soft tissue sarcoma. The doctor said he had to go with dirty margins because the tumor was too big and close to his chest bone 😭 does it means even if he has another surgery he’d never have it all removed right?

You talk about extremities never metastasizing but only mention legs - what about maxillary? My dog has had sts for 3 years (didn’t know until last year because the dr thought it was gingival hyperplasia) but it’s at the end of his top jaw (over the large canine). Could that be why it hasn’t metastasized in over 3 years despite being a grade 3 (19/10 mitotic count)?

This helps and makes me feel better about my dogs sarcoma on the ankle. Cytology diagnosed as possibly a higher grade, but how accurate is an FNA? Can these tumors be mistakened for another type of tumor? It doesn't affect her in any way and she hasn't even looked at it. She was fully staged with cheat x-ray, abdomen ultrasound and lymph node biopsy on the same leg. Everything was clear, blood work was great. The specialist said they wouldn't be able to get clean margins because of location so I opted for the wait and see approach. It has grown a bit over the year but is shrinking this spring. She has been treated holistically with Chinese medicine, supplements, acupuncture and light therapy. If the tumor starts to bother her, I was told amputation would be the best call. She will be going for yearly staging to make sure metastasis isn't occurring. She will be 9 years old this fall. Have you ever seen a sarcoma resolve itself through other types of non invasive treatment?

Thank you for taking the time to walk us through this. My 16 year old pug had a growth in his anus, it was removed and sent to lab. The results came back showing a stage 1 soft tissue sarcoma. I havent found any information regarding this area? Can you please help me understand? Thank you

Is soft tissue sarcoma different than histiocytic sarcoma?

When the soft tissue sarcoma recurs, is it always the same grade as before? Can it come back much more aggressive than before? And when it recurs and surgery is not an option due to lack of skin tissue on face, is radiation the best next option?
@steffanyaugust3143 Жыл бұрын
My dog's initial STS was grade 1 and vet removed with dirty margins. It came back about 6-7 months later as a high grade II/low III. Radiation is definitely the next best option to surgery for curative intent in my opinion.

is cyclophosphamide is the preferred drug for chemotherapy in this case?
@VetDojo3 жыл бұрын
Its a combination of cyclophosphamide and piroxicam which has been shown to prevent recurrence. Either one alone is unlikely to be effective.
