Hello Nola! The portable power station is not weather proof if that is what you are asking. This can be used both inside and outside as long as you are keeping it out of the elements.

Does the lighter plug work with out turning on the unit? Meaning with the inverter off, so it doesn’t draw from the battery?

The inverter will turn on once it draws more than 2.2-4.4 Watts. Hope this helps.

If I’m out of power, how am I to charge this unit? Run car for 5hrs? Isn’t there a battery operated power station?

You can charge with a solar panel.

You can charge these with Solar panels, Car charger, or a 110v house charger.

How long does this run after fully charged? I would want to charge devices and a space heater…how long will it last?

This will run 222 Watt hours. Divide the watt draw from your space heater by 222 and that will give you the amount of time it will run on one charge.
