Amazing to see them being built BUT so sad to see them being pulled apart?

This is such a sad sight. Formerly beautiful ships at sea or in port now beached and discarded. Eaten away as if by some parasite. In a few short months nothing will be left but the memories.

I worked as a musician on the Monarch of the Seas, Oasis of the Seas, and a short contract on Liberty of the Seas. Monarch was my first experience as a cruise band musician. I had the time of my life and hope to return in the near future once covid-19 subsides and the industry can return full force.

I was at her launch party when I worked at the Miami base. Apparently, a few folks embarrassed themselves and ruined some of the cabins so we didn't get the same party for Majesty. Having worked on all three Sovereigns when they were at their height, it's sad to see their ultimate end.

25 years ago (1996) when my wife and I were newly weds we traveled on the Sovereign of the Seas during Easter week. It was out second cruise. She was a wonderful ship to travel on. Sad to see her gone.

we were on the Monarch a few years ago from Lisbon to the Canary Islands. she was a tired bet up old lady. She took a nasty gash in the hull docking in one of the island ports.

What do they do with the lifeboats nsuch.
@Cutlass_Rudd3 жыл бұрын
They scrap them because the scrapper pays over a million per ship and those are old tankers and cargo ships. These ones probably bring even more. Easy money for a cruise line that's on the brink of bankruptcy, they can always have new ships built and likely will.

So SAD, and just a complete waste, these modern cruise ships are so hideous, and so overcrowded, just no forethought as to the future, and if they believe that these monstrosities are the way forward, think again

@PreservationEnthusiast3 жыл бұрын
No they won't. They were older ships and losing money during Covid. Rather than waste money maintaining them during the slack period, it's a better financial decision to build new ships to suit modern needs when things pick up. The new ships can be built in less than a year nowadays.
@map33843 жыл бұрын
@@PreservationEnthusiast I have to agree. They were older ships from the late 80s and early 90s whose style and design were outdated. I traveled on the Sovereign but her time had come.
@PortofSouthamptonShips3 жыл бұрын
@@map3384, this is absurd! It is not because the ship was from the late 1980s that it should be dismantled. Both Monarch and Sovereign had a long career ahead of them.
