We continue to celebrate Native American Heritage Month with Part 2 of the history and guidance brought to us by Oren Lyons.
About: This story of colonization was a universal story before it was a local story. Every tribal nation confronted the same challenges to their sovereignty, from the Haudenosaunee on the east coast to the tribes and nations here in Washington State.
To be Native American and alive today is to have survived attempted genocide. Oren speaks to the strength of the people and government of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. He attests to the endurance and power of his people’s sovereignty, and does so without ever mentioning the word.
“Sovereignty is the state of existence as a self-governing entity. Like the individual states of the United States, each member nation of the Haudenosaunee retains the authority to govern its own internal affairs. Within the framework of the Great Law and its own specific laws, each individual nation reserves the right to adjudicate internal disputes, pass laws for the welfare of their own community, assess fees, regulate trade and commerce, control immigration and citizenship, oversee public works, approve land use, and appoint officials to act on its behalf. Every member of the Haudenosaunee has the authority to defend its citizens against internal and external dangers and to advocate for the peaceful resolution of conflict and the equitable distribution of collective resources.”

In the last several weeks I have wanted to learn more about our Native American history. I found a video by Chief Oren Lyons. His videos are such eye-openers. I saw the video about the movie "The Wizard of Oz". You see a movie that you had enjoyed most of your life, but listening to Chief Lyons interpretation of the movie, it no longer has its beauty, excitement. It lost its lust. Thank you, Chief Lyons for opening my eyes. Please continue with your many history lessons.

🌲🐬🐚... Thank You for all the Teachings Professor and Team! With Unconditional Love from Massachusetts! Respectfully We ask... Why is it that we still have a road named Columbus Ave. that starts from Dorchester and through Roxbury? This Land belongs to the Indigenous Natives of the United States. After 40 years in this beautiful Land... At last I'm learning the true History of what happened to the original families that lived here for thousands of years. ... Respectfully curious! Please enjoy this beautiful song that represents the Students I served in the educational field for over 30 years as a Public School Secretary. 💞🐚🌲🐬🌍🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻 "We are ☝ 🌎" Taboo

Thank U & I thank your heritage for surviving. I am ashamed of white men & I cannot understand these things. And that we ignore. I do what when I can assure that ppl trying to forget (in my circle along my narrow path:/) to not forget & to respect & know u were here this your land not ours we stole & massacred the gift of earth God gave us & life from it. My heritage knew you were supreme & helped one another from the 1730’s & were adopted to the Mohawk clan. I Love & Honor You. I follow you under my God & Christ Jesus & I pray for the Earth’s survival.

Wish I knew Oren Lyons before but I do now and the best thing I can do is truly listen to his word and thoughts. It's the ultimate kind of respect is to respect his teachings. I was raised by my aunt who was born in a barn, and later became everything she wanted to and eventually was on our council and meet the president and helped many. From being born in a barn to meeting the president and many people in power. I truly feel blessed to have known and been raised by her truly a blessing one couldn't ask for or even grasp til years later. I'm going to make a little video biographical film about her and things she did. She wasn't any more special than you or me but she sure did many things in life. Like the children book that says " oh the places you will go and the things you will do in life" many blessings Oren Lyons aho young brother

I love this culture, I lived in this culture, I got family in this culture, I understand this culture; but I have learned that man is given possession over the land and man was commanded to take care of the land, and those who do good with a little, are given more, and no matter how hard man works the land for peace and coexsitance alone. That alone doesn't get us into heaven or give way to real peace of mind for future generations.

My ancestor was there in 1944 w you in a neutral in between based on peace & exploration to be w the land. He told Washington that we had to respect you & embrace your wisdoms. He owned the Tavern in Lancaster where the white leaders stays & was scout, baker mountaineer, Highlander. He recommended we not bring war & warned of loss before many battles. Mohawk adopted him offered him bride. Can anyone remove the curse on my life & lead me to my path? I am lost by now no more start overs. Same w Earth I pray for her survival. It’s been a long road, huh. 🙏 Thank U for this Wisdom of truth for which I will not forget Union Story.

To those who would like to know of things to come so they may prepare. Check out the Thwaites Glacier and know the facts on this Florida size glacier on a mountainside. One and a half miles thick and another glacier on each side. Scientist say we have 5-10 years till it slides.

Duality was strong in what we call Indian country before the arrival of Europeans. Fact, alot of tribes scattered all over North and South America. That's why war was already here. The Europeans came from this type of environment as well ,so they had this as well. So the communication was not from our " inner" sacred center that we all have but rather "outer identity" . skin color, language, culture and religion. This is what has separated all of us. All you have to do is look and listen on how extreme it is today. The more we separate ourselves from one another ,the more our grandmother earth wants to cleanse herself. And if she does, she will not be concerned about race, culture, religion or whatever affiliation you are from.
