Wouldn't it have been easier to whittle down the captain using regular combat then use the Olog for the killing blow?

Mr Moustache I did. To an extent. I wanted to make sure I didn't accidentally kill him by inflicting a DOT effect from gear. Also, there's always the chance for a follower to get involved. Like saviors and all that. All this is better avoided by his "heavily damaged by beasts" trait. The goal is the highest chance for success in the shortest time. ;-)
