Hi am using pots like you in the video how long do you keep the lids on the pots when the Haworthias have germinated thank you really enjoyed the video
@Cactimania8 ай бұрын
I keep the lids on for a good month or two. It's important to still keep the soil moist after removing the lids. When they're around 6 to 8 months old and have 2 sets of leaves already then you can start letting the soil dry out between watering. Thank you for watching and commenting 🌵☀️🌺🌼🌸🏜

Nice! I've sown some Haworthia hybrid seeds too (mixed, no idea of parentage) as a first attempt. Only one seedling so far. I have no equipment as such, so I've started moving them to the top of the fridge during the day for added warmth. I was debating leaving them there overnight, but you've convinced me to move them back to a cooler spot. You don't happen to have experience with Avonia seeds, do you?
@Cactimania3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Janet, good luck with your Haworthia seeds. Unfortunately I have no experience with Avonia seeds. I did have an Avonia papyracea a while back but I struggled keeping it alive. It didn’t arrive to me in the best condition either. Thank you for watching and commenting 🌵☀️🌼🌸🌺🏜

Looking forward to progress reports! Do I take it that these seeds don't need much light to germinate? Thinking of the vermiculite sprinkled on them and then netting but then put under lights. Would bottom heat alone be enough? I'm new to sowing and hoping to sow seeds in a couple of weeks - want to get it right! Thank you... (you must eat a lot from the deli!)
@Cactimania3 жыл бұрын
When you sow seeds it’s always best to put them in a bright location but no direct sunlight. You’ll know if seedlings are getting too much light as they’ll turn a red colour. Too little and they’ll be a pale green colour. Most cacti and succulent seeds need heat to germinate and good moisture/humidity, so the propagator helps out with that. Haha those pots I use had cheese sauce in them! 😂 Good luck with your seed sowing. Thank you for watching and commenting 👍🏻🌵☀️🌼🏜
@edithcoliagrandis3 жыл бұрын
The vermiculite helps retain/regulate the humidity inside the pots; netting helps protect the seedlings should the light be too bright or strong when they germinate.
@waytoogeneric86163 жыл бұрын
Is the container airtight or do the lids have some holes?
@Cactimania3 жыл бұрын
Only drainage holes in the bottom, for germinating cactus and succulent seeds and the first few months of their growth it’s important to keep the moisture levels up. Thank you for watching and commenting 🌵☀️🌼🌺🏜

Thanks for showing at least a few of the seeds and their relative sizes. I am extremely put off by the people that are selling Haworthia seeds and other succulent seeds on Itsy, E Bay, and some other sites. I ordered packs of seeds from one site and they were supposed to be many differnet variates ... what I got was 30 of the same type seeds. I have grown cacti from seed for over 50 years.. (I am 84) But wanted to try some succulents.. finding Haworthia plants much easier to grow, and care for. So, it appears that several of these sellers really think we are suckers and will just throw in junk seeds to make a buck. Would be nice if you were able to give us some trusted seed sources. Thanks

@@kelekkelek5119 hi hi. Allow me to reply please as my growing condition is more humid than Daz’s and I use fungicide on my plants. Sulfur-based fungicides are effective as a contact fungicide because they’re in powder form. Sulfur is natural and you can apply it safely on a plant that you know is infected. Just make sure that you remove the affected part completely before applying the powder. However, if you want a long-lasting and preventive measure, i suggest you get a systemic fungicide that you can incorporate in watering your plants. A little caveat though, i don’t know how your growing condition is and the extent of your need for the fungicide so you might want to do more research. Hope this helps.🥰
