I am making a habit of coming back to this performance almost weekly or biweekly, and discover new interesting things. For example, the maestro urges the orchestra at the start to quicken up when he found the tempo is slacking a bit. He kept doing that in all the first tutti. It sets the tempo of the whole performance, even for the soloist. That is why this performance has the best tempo of all I have heard, indeed Allegro ma non troppo. They have mutual respect to each other, perhaps adding some fatherly or grand fatherly love. Ms Yoon has the most amazing facial/eye and body expressions of all violinists I have seen. She will show she is happy when she plays a perfect passage, but will show through her eyes she is not happy because of an imperfect harmonic. She also winks at the audience when they gave an over enthusiastic applause at the end of the first movement. etc. etc. Just amazing video and sound reproduction. She plays her Guadagnini like a Guarneri del Gesù.

wow, so energetic and thoughtful interpretation of this concert. I did not know about Soyoung . She has a very natural technique and a clarity purity of expression it is hard to find. The cadenza keeps you on your tiptoes and almost disoriented at times but definitely spellbound.

The cadence gives me life! Props to the composer who conglomerated all of the other cadenza's from major concerti in a incredible fashion and Soyoung for being brave to take on such a task. Very bold and she made the concerto her own. I feel like the composer wrote the cadenza as a homage to the competitors.Great work!

This is some pretty unbelievable Beethoven--so thoughtful and engaging. I wish I could have been there! (And I'm glad to read these comments and to see no comparisons to Sarah Chang or remarks about Soyoung's "expressive eyes"...maybe people have really changed for the better since 2011!)

I don’t know much about classical music and cadenza but I think she’s doing a good job as a competition opener and previous winner, enjoying every moment there. And like before her violin tone is quite impressive. Of course she can play awesome violin as well. All I wanna say is thank you Ms Yoon and Poland. I didn't pay a dime for this concert.

She plays this concerto with full of emotions and body languages.Really enjoy watching her play, specially 2nd movement is so romantic.
@siuhhonkeung7 жыл бұрын
Just look and listen how fire up she was in the last minute of the concerto!
@martinsinger98867 жыл бұрын
She dares to deviate from conventions and fixed prejudices about Beethoven, especially in the 3rd movement. Just watch and listen to the first introduction of the rondo theme here, where all soloists of the past and most of the present choose to play this dancing theme dramatically (including body language) fully on the G - string, while she plays it in a happy and dancing way in the first position and thereby triggers a totally new way of hearing this movement not as "written by the titan Beethoven", but as an expression of joy, spring, and dancing youth. This, together with the romantic second movement, the masterly way she lets the imminent dominant - sept chord at the solo introduction just build up the right amount if light tension - raising expection, but only so much, that there is plenty of room for further development, the "sophisticated" way how she brings out the farewell mood at the end of the first movement (after the cadenza) and not to forget the inspired orchestra make this an outstanding interpretation. Just my personal feeling :)
@youngohr42157 жыл бұрын
It seems that you know lot about music and I don't know about music and just enjoying listening. Agree with you on the dancing theme at the beginning of third movement, her bowing stroke is very light and pleasant compared to the traditional players which was strong and heavy and also enjoyed your honest opinion. Her cadenza is very unique.

What a performance of the Beethoven Violin Concerto! First thing first, the cadenza of the first movement: it is not quite Beethoven like, it is sometimes like Mendelssohn, like Bartok, like Paganini, even like Shostakovich! It is since 2011's competition that I hear her playing again. I think she has gained a lot of maturity. It is one thing to play Sibelius and another thing to play Beethoven. I think she is up to it. Now, I would like to hear her playing Brahms.

Soyoung Yoon could be a leader of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. They would like her honesty. The Kammerphilharmonie Bremen is wonderful. I can not discern what the conductor adds. This, however, may be a good thing since the violinist, who has long experience of playing in an orchestra, appears to draw the orchestra to an amazing focus.
