You guys are awesome! Watching you, Hot for Food, and Cowspiracy inspired me to go vegan. I had my picky eating, chicken obsessed husband watch Cowspiracy and he agreed it's the best choice too and will only get something non vegan if he eats out (which is huge for him). We have 3 small children so we are now 4 new vegans and 1 mostly vegan (since January and counting). 😁

Although I wish she would go vegan, I kind of love having Liz's non-vegan opinion on everything that you try. When I was a vegetarian, I would have eggs pretty much every day for breakfast (gross) and it is really hard to imagine what a fake egg would taste like.
@simran55578 жыл бұрын
But eggs aren't vegetarian right??? It is an animal
@lizabernie8 жыл бұрын
Simran555 They're vegetarian. There's no killing involved in harvesting eggs.
@rob_cd8 жыл бұрын
No. Eggs are not vegetarian. If you eat them as a vegetarian, you're an ovo vegetarian, meaning you eat eggs. If you drink cow's milk too, you're a lacto-ovo vegetarian. There's plenty of killing involved in egg production. The hens are badly mistreated, even the so-called free-range hens, and male chicks are ground up alive because they don't lay eggs. I was an ovo vegetarian for many years, and I'm glad I made the switch to veganism.
@simran55578 жыл бұрын
+lizabernie Oh okay, but a egg could become a Chicken if you let it grow
@PeaceJohanna8 жыл бұрын
+Simran555 Actually eggs that you eat are unfertilized, so no baby chicken will grow. With that said, the egg industry is quite cruel. Hen's beaks are cut short, they live in terrible living conditions, pumped with drugs, and made to produce an unusual amount of eggs until they are "spent" (can no longer lay eggs) and are then killed for consumption.
@rjbowman376649 жыл бұрын

I unfortunately couldn't find the black salt where I am but I did not like the taste of the veg egg the first couple of times I've made it. It was just so Bland even though the texture and the smell were spot-on . But I tried it once more and instead of using ice cold water I used vegetable stock. And let me tell you it made all the difference. It was so yummy. I'm never going back to using plain water again with the veg egg !

So I looked up that salt on Amazon and stumbled across the nutrition facts... For one serving size guys it said it's almost 7000 mg of sodium! I don't know if that's a misprint but regular salts usually only about 560? Somewhere around there, so if that's accurate that means it's about 12 times the amount of regular table salt!!!!:0 lol don't know if I'll be buying it knowing how high in sodium it is:/

Is it a product that is just meant to emulate scrambled eggs or could it be used as an egg replacer in baking as well?
@RebelwheelsNYCShow9 жыл бұрын
lol you guys are too cute. I've been watching other vegan egg taste test videos and it seems to be when people use a blender the egg "batter" becomes too thick, especially since they don't say how long to put it in the blender for. have you guys ever tried the black sea salt on other foods? I'd be curious if there was a DIY cheaper vegan egg recipe that could be made?
@PwntsRocksU9 жыл бұрын
+Rebelwheels NYC (Michele Kaplan) sometimes people use flax seed as an egg-like replacement for baking needs.
@soyouredatingavegan9 жыл бұрын
+Rebelwheels NYC (Michele Kaplan) We are new to the black salt. It's a keeper. I bet you could put it on tofu scramble for a cheaper egg sub. BTW when I was researching it I found out Indian black salt (kala namak) and black sea salt are different things. p.s. Hi Michele!
@oOtiniaOo9 жыл бұрын
+Rebelwheels NYC (Michele Kaplan) It's pretty easy and really good. For a basic scramble egg I use smoked tofu, silken tofu, turmeric, kala namak and black pepper. I usually leave a little bit of the silken tofu for the very end so it doesn't get stained yellow from the turmeric and it looks more eggy.

now just make tofu eggs. i just throw a block of tofu in a pan and start grilling. then throw in some onion powder, garlic powder, turmeric, and black salt and just mix it all together. tastes like eggs, looks like eggs (maybe a little overcooked scrambles). I've used a few bags of kala namak in the past year... I use that same brand (swad) for a number of things.. they really are the 'best taste.' If you can find an indian grocery near you, it is a veritable vegan treasure trove. many produce items are significantly better priced as well as great bean and rice selections.
