It's interesting. People often recommend brighter mics for those with lower voices but this sounds amazing on yours.

I had the Bomblet for a little bit when Soyuz let me demo it at the beginning of this year. And like you I have a deeper voice, so I was worried it was gonna be a tad too dark and low mid forward, but shockingly it still sounded very articulate and clear to me without sacrificing any of that smoothness or full bodied tone.

Right?? I experienced the same thing, with this caliber of microphone, it seems like they got the tuning in a good place where even darker tones aren't overbearing even on lower signals.

The bomblet is a beautiful mic. Never lacking in clarity, regardless of its dark tone. I own the 017FET myself, so I know what it feels like to own a Soyuz. you can hold it, feel the weight and superb construction, and you just know that the person who made it cared about it. Also! I have seen images of a HPF module for the soyuz mics. They're clearly not commercially available, but they do exist!

@@AudioHaze I've only seen pictures while deepdiving into soyuz products online. I believe the ones I saw were part of a limited edition Bomblet as a price for a competition in Russia. I can't imagine they're not from Soyuz themselves. Why else would you use a detachable connection for a capsule on the 017 too when it doesn't come with a pad like the bomblet? I believe they're simply not selling them or probably even actively manufacturing them. Maybe in the future.

The Bomblet was the first Soyuz I listened to and the first I fell in love with. The 017 gets most of the love in the VO space but I think I actually prefer the Bomblet.

@@AudioHaze you should get on their case about getting a 1973 to try out, if it's anything like the 023 and 017 it will be a very cool mic EDIT let me also add the KB v2 is really impressive for sub-$200, I was an early adopter of the mk1 for $99 and I have whatever the opposite is of buyer's remorse right now

What a beautiful microphone. Soyuz makes amazing things. I wonder, have you had any experience with Sontronics? Their Mercury tube mic looks similar to this, and is similarly priced. It probably does sound a bit different though.

Brilliant video I can totally agree with you on this. I pulled the trigger on a schoeps cmc1 mk41 this week and although it’s not for looking at I’ve had that connection feeling with it. It’s just that missing piece I always wanted but never knew just how much I needed 😂😂 The frequency response would turn me off the Soyuz but man does it sound sweet on your voice. Fingers crossed they change their mind and let you keep it.

The pad is not a resistor, it's a capacitor in parallel with the capsule. That said, it is a beautiful mic.

Actually the bomblet is based/influenced by the Lomo 19A19 (copy of the CK12 capsule). The 19A9 had a copy of the M7 capsule. Having used 4 different 19A19's, the older ones we're like a mix between C12 and a M49 and the newer ones were slightly darker. Anyhow great video!

Thanks for review! To my ears the 3rd mic in a test actually sounded a bit closer and more focused on your voice than others (like you recorded it at 15 cm, and others at 25-30). And yes, it sounds pleasant. And If you're into darker mics you might be interested in Oktava MK-119 (it has almost same frequency graph, but honestly, Oktava's very unpredictable, some mics of one model may sound pleasant, while others don't). And unfortunately it has construction with possible resonances (so this is kinda lottery).

I thought so too! But turns out it really just doesn't pick up much reflections, all microphones are 7 inches away from me at an angle that you see in the video. That being said, on the performance on the second channel, you can hear how much noise is picks up from outside the room. I'll have to check out the Oktava!

The Bomblet is a killer mic, but it's $2000 north of the 49th. I'm keeping an eye on their 1973 series if the marketing is worth anything, though!

Have you considered that you are promoting Russian products at a time when Russian industry is helping to exterminate another country? Several million people had to leave Ukraine because there is no opposition to the invasion in Russia. I have not noticed any voice against the war from the manufacturer of these microphones. Bro, this war could have been prevented very easily, just if the US had warned Russia about the consequences of invasion in 2021.
