I’m Russian. Yes, you are right, but only partially. Russians are very progmatic and realistic. Russian elites and Russian government. Why change something that works - they say and they keep selling oil and gas. Why develop science if Soyuz works? Please read about Zarya spacecraft. It was developed in USSR and was pretty much ready to fly but USSR is dead and Soyuz is still in service. Man, don’t be naive. We still have to use Soyuz because Russian science doesn’t have any support. I’m grateful to people who lived before my generation, because of them some people still respect Russia. But my generation and I let our elites ruined everything. This is why we have what we have. Sorry if I was too political, but I wanted you to know how things went for us.

After these long spaceflights, I know the astronauts and cosmonauts do their best to show their best face, but you can tell, gravity's a bitch after they first get back. I wonder how long it takes before they fully recover from the effects of microgravity.
@chichomancho17912 ай бұрын
about 3 weeks.
@redl37332 ай бұрын
Recovery on average takes same time as they spend in space. Especially when you do half-year or year missions. Usually they get back to normal much faster, but the longer they spend there - more it affects their health, especially bones, eyes, muscular and cardiovascular system. They actually never fully recover, but can back to work again. After half-year missions, it usually takes 1-2 weeks for their height/spine to return to normal state. They can become taller by ~3-5cm(1-2in). And after 1-2 months they start doing more exercises. On the ISS they do a lot of exercises too, there are special devices, medicine, but still, it's all depends on person and their program... just remind you how hard it was for Andrew Feustel even to walk.

While lying down pressures in the head is higher than when sitting or standing, so it may reduce risks. In space, a lot of liquids, blood flows to the upper body. You may notice it from how their faces looks... also how they hold their arms and shoulders position in microgravity. They don't do sunbathe on station and on Earth liquid go down again. Also they experience around 2-4G during re-entry and touch down. All of this is just part of the reason why they look like that.
