You can record while listening to a pattern. Set record settings to record external only (not mix). Go into patern select. Press Resample. Now choose the pad you want to record to. It will take you back to patern select where you hit the patern you want to listen to. Depending on the count-in settins you have, you might get 1,2, bars or wait for a sound. Depends what you want to do. You can also (with the 4.04 update) chosse to record exactly 2,4, 8 bars exactly. If you like your take, go edit your pattern in tr-rec mode and put a trig on the 1 of your pattern.

And yes, it took me a bit to grok this out. Not exactly easy, but once you are in the flow, not horrible ..... (not ableton, either).

Agree with several of these requests, especially headphone volume and metering but recording a new sample while a pattern is playing is already possible: - Press Pattern Select - Press Resample and select a flashing pad - Press Shift + Ext Source and change the routing to Extin, then hit Exit - Press a flashing pattern pad to start the count in before recording Bonus: Press Shift + Pad 10 (Count-In) to loop through the options: Wait, Off, 1Meas, 2Meas Optionally, just before hitting the pad to record use CTRL 2 to set the number of measures to record to: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, or infinity. I’ve been recording live guitar, piano and bass into the SP while a beat is playing using this and it is such a great workflow.

O the sidechain tip, I was jamming with a buddy the other day and we stumbled upon a happy accident. If you enable the juno chorus, crank the noise and then select the right version for your sound you get a sidechain type vibe. Super noisy and lofi but I was pleasantly surprised.

Hmmm gonna have to investigate…

if full on eq is too much trouble, then a high pass/low pass filter per pad at the very least would be super useful.

EQ and sidechain would be great. Honestly, the Bus FX layout drives me crazy at this point though haha. I've been using SPs for 10+ years and I've never been able to get into using it to make any full arrangements. I think it would be better if Roland just made a proper standalone sampler/sequencer that actually rivals all of the current standalone samplers/sequencers. Roland's synths onboard something that has an intuitive recording, sampling, and songbuilding workflow. That would be dope.

I do wonder what a true 1:1 MPC competitor by Roland would look like.

Metering and Filter per pad. Would really speed up my workflow. Dilla used Pro Tools for Donuts It’s not the machine it’s the man!
