Many thanks! When I look up something about the SP and I see your thumbnail, I always sigh with relief.

Perfect explanation! I was driving myself insane cause I had bus 1 running in to 2. This helps so much. You're a legend!

One thing that you didn't mention that confused me for a while was the flashing (or not) of both the [BUS FX] button and the six effect buttons. After some RTFM on my part, it turns out that if the [BUS FX] button is solid, then BUS 1 is selected, and any effect button assigned to it will also light up solid. Whereas if the [BUS FX] button is flashing, it means BUS 2 is selected, and any effect assigned to it (even an MFX effect) will also have its button flashing. The other thing that confused me for a while (yes, I'm easily confused) is why the status bar above the BPM number would sometimes show BUS-2 when BUS 1 was selected. As it happens, the status bar shows the details of the current project and pad (e.g. P-1 A-5 BUS-2 Fix DC). So it shows the bus to which the current pad is assigned, not the bus that's currently selected according to the [BUS FX] button.

FX Bus is the secret weapon of SP, which I still have to learn. This helps a lot. Thx for your precise and explanation.

Still learning the 404, and I accidentally hit and assigned the Bus effects during a very chaotic rehearsal, and couldn’t back out of it in the heat of the moment. Now I feel better equipped to rectify that, and actually USE the Buss Effects. And I highly recommend Roland’s editor/librarian app if you need to load and manage a ton of samples and projects easily and quickly. It’s been a lifesaver for me.

This cleared up so much for me. Your tutorial videos are all rock solid. I had already put a pad on bus 2 but I think I'd done it by going through mute groups or something. BUS FX and REMAIN is sooooo much quicker and easier.

How do we press the play button on the sp? Also, how do we record from the first record button not the resample?

Is there a way to add a bus efx to one pad in a pattern? When I tried to do this, the bus is on all the patterns
@frederichwalker3400 Жыл бұрын
Yes there is
@surf89418 ай бұрын
Yes, he demonstrated at 4:48, hold BUS+remain then select the pads you dont want to effect. The white colored pads will be as is and the orange pads will be with the fx you applied on your BUS.

How to let "dry" white pads be affected by bus 3 and 4 ? they do not on my sp...white pads just do not enter any bus... how to modify this ? I mean if I want compression on my full mix that also applies to the samples that have no effects on. If it's a master bus it's a master bus 😂😂
@mattspence59269 күн бұрын
I’m wondering that too
@viviencharrier19849 күн бұрын
@mattspence5926 I have found the solution for this. In effects settings/other/ go to " dry routing" and change the value "dry" to "bus3" and here you go 😊

Great explanation but ( as an audio engineer ) that has to be the most convoluted buss FX send I've seen on any piece of gear yet. Why didn't Roland just have two ( or 4 ) buss effects and then a send level into each per pad?
@nervouscooks10 ай бұрын
Yeah I agree, it’s not at all intuitive and took me a while just to understand. Like you said there are easier ways! 😂

@@nervouscooksLoving the machine itself though, it sounds superb and the timing is rock solid.
@boothbuster3 ай бұрын
Yeah the sp-16 / DJS1000 is so much more intuitive for effects routing... MPC too to a degree. I guess they figured this was probably going to be mostly used as master effects so just being able to block a few sample pads from getting effected was the goal.

Question 🙋♂️ does the sp404mk2 have a glide/pitch/portamento glide function between pads? So that when playing a bass let’s say it slides up or down from 1 note/pad/pitch to the other note/pad/pitch? Thanks

why is it when i put fx on bus one and two and apply them after a few minutes of messing with my beat they bypass on their own? they don't stay on?
@datops4 ай бұрын
How do you save a beat?
@saggygnaw6 ай бұрын
Sorry to be pedantic but you don’t send effects to the pads, you send the pads through the bus effects, as with literally any mixer with send knobs. That’s the whole point of a bus, you have a single place that processes multiple sources which are sent through it. Also I think using industry standard terms like series or parallel routing helps beginners understand the terminology, which translates to other devices and mitigates confusion in overlapping terms.
