SP 661 LF installed on a Ponsse Bear. The SP 661 LF head is equipped with a Ponsse Opti head module and is such controlled by the original Opti system in the cab.

Looks like it's working great! What is the advantage of the 661 LF vs H8
@spmaskiner

Yes we think so too! The 661 LF has quite a few advantages over the H8: more heavy duty built, cleaner design with better hose routing/hose protection, less moving parts such as cylinders, pins, synchronizing plates etc, better handling of hardwood/crooked timber.

I’ve owned sp for quite a few years and recently took a job operating a bear with h8 and absolutely hate the h8 . Not enough power , spins too easily creating divots in the timber and doesn’t handle large timber nearly as well. I will be looking to get back to SP as soon as possible !

@@Thathersheyguy The feed wheels on the Ponsse heads, or any scandinavian carry style head for that matter, would benefit from being larger and wider. But if you're spinning that much there's something wrong. Low squeeze pressure and wore out feed wheels being the top 2 suspects. I watched a new 661 recently and while it seemed good in small wood it seemed to struggle once it gets to 18 inches or so. I'd take the H8 any day in big wood. As far as power, the H8 on my Ergo has more than enough.

@@ponsseguy so far I haven’t had any luck with adjusting pressures . I keep trying different pressure settings and it just flat out doesn’t handle big wood like my SP761LF on the rottne.

@@Thathersheyguy i would hope a bigger head would handle big wood better. That's like complaining that a 1500 gasser doesn't pull a 40 ft gooseneck as well as a 2500 diesel does. Sounds like you should've kept the rottne

Great way to ruin a Ponsse. Never seen a head yet that could beat an h8.
