An unspoken reality to why the show was canceled was it was entirely a UK production, with no American crews, staff & contractors able to cash in on it (hence it never stood a chance for any studio in north-america to pick up on a long-term basis). Therefore it was lucky it got picked up for the 2nd year under Friedkin.
