"This is how I survived the fight off Mars." "You started a launch cycle just for yourself, forcing the rest of the squadron to be stuck in check waiting for the launch deck to be locked and pressurized so that the squadron has to waste valuable time and ordinance trying to save you when you start an unwinnable dogfight against superior forces instead of on-mission? I'm starting to have questions about Mars."

Youre not wrong, but drawing off the enemy to get the whole squadron out with minimal risk, and get them to flinch wondering if all the others are as good as that one? Likely makes sense to a certain mindset.

the Yamato doesn't have a lock on system for its cannons, it relies on its fighters to send data so the gunners can aim at certain coordinates at range. It's like the WW2 destroyers getting info from guys in the field over in the Pacific Campaign

I like the physics of the space battles with the fighters not really behaving like planes in an atmosphere.
@justforever96
@justforever96 6 жыл бұрын
Are you being sarcastic? They flew exactly like planes, just like usual. Way too slow - in space an object never stops accelerating as long as the engine is turned on - always banking and rolling for turns, and turning far too sharply, just like a fighter jet in atmosphere pulling a 6G turn. In space, you have nothing by inertia and thrusters to overcome it. A fighter would never turn that way. And they would have figured out how to put a damn bubble canopy on so the pilot can actually see behind! We figured that out several times by the 1960s. The on;y times they didn;t fly just like planes were totally unrealistic in a different way.
@hellothere_1257
@hellothere_1257 6 жыл бұрын
How do you know the fighters don't just keep constantly accelerating while their engines are on? There are never enought reference points to tell. The whole combat is obviously not realistic, given that space fighters exist at all, but this is definetly one of the better renditions of space fighters I've seen so far.

If you watch closely you can see the fighters using thrusters to adjust their pitch, yaw, roll, and the direction of their thrust. In that sense, yes, it is a better depicting of space warfare. They are not simply "zipping around like jets."

There is one main flaw with the Space Battleship Yamato series in whole. They say they built the ship from the ruins of the Battleship herself. at the time of the original series, nobody knew what condition the wreck of the Yamato was in. They probably would not have made it the way they did if they knew that the ship has been blown apart in two badly destroyed sections.

Similar to how they made the movie "Raise the Titanic" in 1980, assuming the sunken liner was still in one piece, and not two. For what it was, it was actually a pretty decent movie,... but then falls under the stigma of succumbing to newly discovered facts.

I would assume so the cannons could pinpoint their FTL drives, we do the same thing today, using laser and GPS targeting systems to guide weapons with massively increased accuracy.

the fighters had to fly in close to give the cannons their targetting telemetry. i mean, they could probably eyeball it as is, but they sent the fighters to scout and tag em, just to be sure. :D

(1:04) I love the music in this movie so much! I really like this movie, but (spoiler?) it's so sad that pretty much everyone on Yamato dies. 🙁 I guess that's a Japanese thing. Honorable death and all that. The Star Blazers/Space Battleship Yamato were really tragic. It's sad, but I really like that sort of thing. 😎

From your comment I guess you want to sit in a theater for 80 hours while two fleets crawl across 8 light hours of space at .1 lightspeed to enter their respective spheres of engagement for a few seconds. Then swing around and reengage each other 45 to 90 minutes later. Sound exciting to me. Best to watch with movie space mechanics and keep the story moving.

hard to believe that this movie only had a $20 million budget. could you imagine what that special effects company could have done with what americans consider to be a big budget? ive heard rumors that an american star blazers is being considered and i fear that the movie will not be shown the same love as how the japanese handled their version. i guess only time will tell.

Very impressive. I've never seen the Anime but I think I would like this movie. I always prefer seeing films in their original language. Reading the subs is less distracting than the dubbing of almost every non English language movie I've ever seen. This one looks like they put some real effort into the design. How do they account for converting 18" cannon to energy weapons?
@erushi5503
@erushi5503 2 жыл бұрын
I think its a modular cannon from the anime, the 460mm cannons can switch between a photon energy based weapon to a kinetic shell based weapon that fires both AP, HE and air burst shells Well thats from the anime, i think they didn't put that function here in the adaptation
