I really hate SBY and Gundam, they're both Mary Sue animes.

I mean SBY is not as Mary Sue esque when you think about the main characters as the societies that clash against each other on a macro scale. If you emphasize individual writing it’s definitely Mary Sue, but I’d argue that’s not where you should be focusing. SBY is at its core a story about the reclaiming of the Japanese cultural identity. There’s a reason why it’s about a warship from the days of imperial Japan in World War Two.

and the fact that the whole human race was destroyed by the Gamilans meant nothing? they had to be given technology by the Iscandarians before coming up with a wave motion gun and shields to do anything with it. Reclaiming their identity was at its core which was already mentioned. People die left and right and the Yamato itself would have been destroyed in the first anime if it were not for the general being recalled to the homeworld so . . .

Mary sue is a term that can only be used in regards of a character. I don't really understand what you mean, are you saying that the characters in SBY and Gundam never lose? Or that they are perfect in every regard and never make mistakes or do wrong? Because that's what Mary sue means, and honestly I don't really see it
