the best and most effective large grid missile imo is a missile that has its warhead under neath one layer of heavy armor and one light armor block as its cap

Trippy!... more accurate than my cherry-blossom style missiles but much shorter range... Never tried scripts with missiles, needing a turret seems limiting and fiddly, but I'll give it a try.. I generally use a connector instead of a merge block too, not sure which has the advantage..

The merge block allows some wiggy stuff where the control block can control the missile from the ship. Basically a wireless connection

Thanks for the video. I tried Rdav’s script but none of my missiles were guiding because I didn’t realize the turret needed ammo to track targets…

I Build a missle carrier on a Server with my faction :D We were like a small Kim Yong Un! :D we send out missle treaths everytime we found a base :,D

A possible (I haven't personally tested this) solution to the warhead deactivating when it gets too far from the player: Use a mod that increases the in-game speed limit to 10km/s or 100km/s and a mod that increases turret range to the spawn distance and then the missile can just be a solid object ramming it at least 1000m/s causing signifigant damage regardless of range from player

I have a lot of experience with the Whip's Lamp & Wham scripts. Can you tell me whats the difference between that one and the one in this video? Like pro's and con's?

with this script... ur obviously limited on range because ur dependent upon the turrents ability to track and target... what about long range? for this to work what do we use GPS? if so we have to have a man on the ground to reach or log the desired coordinates and pass them to the fire control officer. wonder how we can fire a trackable missile at a target thats out of range? maybe mount a turrent onto the missile with a small cargo for ammo? then set up the turrent for whatever specific target we want to fire at? in theory u could even use your RC block to set up a patrol route for the missile to scout where it would independently operate until someone comes along to trigger it... where it would then seek out the intruder... Hmmm lot of potential here...

No. However, if the turret has no target (or the target is out of range), the missile will track toward where your main cockpit is facing, so you can guide the missile manually by moving your ship.

If i recall, it uses the turret for tracking, which only has 800m range. So unless a mod works with it, no.

It's limited by the range of the designator turret, which means 800m in vanilla. Modded turrets allow for up to 3000m tracking range. Any further, and you have to alter the script.

Yes. This can be annoying in vanilla because it means you need Ammo in order for the missile to be guided. Some mods (like Designator Turrets) help with this.

How does controlling gyro in real time without a remote block or antenna on missile after launch. Is this because they were merged and can still access the control data?

programmable blocks can create a link between unmerged blocks and hold onto it for quite some time and distance. The missile and launching grid continue to communicate as though they were part of the same grid. Otherwise, you'd need an antenna and PB on both the missile and launcher at least, and probably a remote control block on the missile as well. Some missile scripts (like LAMP and WHAM) use the antenna method - there are advantages to each, but Rdav's is better for server performance, and is more accurate in multiplayer, although some might consider this method of control to be bug abuse.
