I honestly think no matter how much better other games look I don't think other Space Survival games will be able to beat Space Engineers in functionality and modding.. SE is just too far ahead of the pack and it takes a lot to get a game to this level on matter what engine you're using. I think SE will end up being minecraft where our kids are still playing this same game even though there will be other games with way better graphics .

The closest competition that I know of is StarMade (less physics, less "realistic", blockier) and DU (MMO, less physics, not out yet)... and that's about it. RoboCraft and the like don't count as they aren't open world, and don't' have multiple planets as part of a single universe. Everything else either isn't a voxel game, isn't multiplayer, or doesn't have physics of this level. SE isn't the best at any one thing, it just combines them in an amazing way.

I don't think even DU will be as good when it comes to functionality because the Devs admit they have to cut out some parts of combat to make their single server environment work. Although it will look prettier but it still won't have the function of Se. I like the idea that SE combines everything.

but guys, according to physics, since your bodies arent really attached to the vehicle and the vehicle is accelerating (changing direction, speeding up, slowing down etc.) you SHOULD be moving, because your bodies have mass -> inertia, right??

It is more because it is annoying as hell to try moving on a moving ship and he just sends you flying all other the place. Also, in SE, there are a lot of cases where motion is linear and then, inertia isn't really a problem. If you really want fizyks, let's say yeah, magboots.

Maybe Keen is doing a little SCi fiction because in most SCI FI shows all their vehicles have inertia dampers so you can take a turn going 500mphs and not feel a thing in the fantasy SCI FI world because of that fantasy technology. I guess because this game takes place in the future you could get away with that idea.

As far as a vehicle goes that's on land, the fiction of your shoes and the vehicle should be enough to keep things from getting too crazy. And then there's magboots like you said.

So many people seem to be forgetting that the magboots do literally nothing when there's even the slightest amount of gravity. Their boots weren't doing anything out of the ordinary.

You could fix the whole Shack taking control while landing issue by making the landing platform a separate grid. That way there'd be no contest of control as he's controlling something different.

We (my group and me) (no I'm not YTber... yet) actually tried those things with 16 people... Other than slow sim-speed of 0.2-0.4, everything went fine! Even in space, flying 100m/s

You've inspired me. I made my own 'contestant' in your fighter design thing. The Man O War. It's designed to be that ugly. But wow if it doesn't make a mess of test opponents. (Sadly I can't multiplayer because of my internet.) Also, what happened to the Planets competition? I was interested and it sort of petered out. I know you had other things going as well. W4sted you could also use the open back as a location to mount one or several guns either some middle caliber cannons, several light cannons or just one big gun. It would definitely live up to its name as Rancor if it packed a major punch. Just a thought though. Great video and looking forward to the next group survival episode.

+w4stedspace idk if you knew or not, but your last testing video wasn't in the dev version(1.169) it was in the non dev version.... you could see it in the main menu in the last stream. i'm hoping you caught that for this one. interesting note because of that, the non dev version is surprisingly stable isn't it?

Use Blast door blocks for your landing pads they can take the repeated impacts and not deform and break so fast

I've recently gotten into SC, Hopped into the easy start, with Big Red, Blue, and the Green base in an asteroid cluster. Tore up Blue, captured a couple of passing SPRT ships, tore them up, and made my very first flying brick. It's got a hanger bay, airlocks, it's pressurized, assembly and refining etc. But it's a brick. I'm currently tearing down Big Red, quickly followed by the Green base. Mine out the asteroids then build something more elegant. You're designs will almost certainly be incorporated at some point. I'm thinking of a reusable Lotus design; launch a ton of warheads from a rotating disc or something, then stop above the target and go down in fighters/carvers or drones and tear it up. Return, rinse, repeat.
