Making parts of ships with projectors is one thing but producing a whole ship takes it up to the next level. Space Engineer is like a mixture between Minecraft and Kerbal Space Program. The game is in pre-alpha and will be released on steam at some point in the future.
The main purpose of the game seems to be building a space fleet and fight/ally with the other factions. You build your ships piece by piece and the only know limit for the size of your ship is what you computer can handle.

If you made blueprints correctly, you could have it produce multiple ships at once, like four different Henrys. The best thing to do would make a carrier that has a few of these in it, so that when there is a fight, you build a bunch of fighters and when the fight is done you simply grind them back down into materials. This does many things: 1. Cuts down on lag from having 30 ships docked to a carrier. 2. EXTREMELY cuts down the size requirement for carriers, having a few ship printers compared to massive flight deck. 3. Means that you can have any composition of spacecraft you want. Instead of carrying 10 bombers and 20 fighters, you can decide to print any number of each for extreme versatility. You are only limited by materials. 4. Adapting or upgrading your fleet. now you don't have to manually upgrade 30 different ships, because since you only print them when you need them, all you need to do is upgrade the blueprints. 5. Makes large carriers possible for normal people to build. So as you can see, this invention completely changes the game on how carriers will work. Instead of having 30 ships, you can now have but two or three ship printers and only have fighters when you need them.

Yeah, I completely agree. I've recently made a rebel rigger that contains a small bay that allows it to produce its own drones. The thing is though, I don't have a workforce of 100 men, there's only me and my friend, so we can only control 2 ships at a time. Though if the game can eventually support large multiplayer battles, I think that our ideas would fit perfectly for that!

The Average Pro But when bits of the armor was actually destroyed, it wasn't able to replace it. All it could do was repair damaged bits. With the projector, does it maintain the projection and replace parts that are destroyed?

Now THIS is a really good and already fleshed out idea! You can even change the welders to grinders for a unprinter, but you only really need a grinder pit with a mass block and gravity to do that anyway.

What I would like to see is a showroom with holograms of projected ships spinning around. If you want to 'buy' one of those ships, they would print it out for you. Also, Holograms an be used for decoy's and deception in combat. Love to see that too

Watching this I just got an idea.... I remember another video where someone(I think you) had a robot arm. With that couldn't you repair ships? With a girder attached to one you could cut blocks that were to damaged or prevented building. With a welder and projector you could rebuild areas. And if you wanted to upgrade said ship you could have a landing gear. With the landing gear you could place it on the wings, cut the wings off, place them in a grinding trap or something(to get your parts back), and with a projector you could weld a new upgraded version of your ship.

I'd like to see a proper assembly line factory like an automotive plant. Rolling out everything from fighters to corvettes and frigates. It also means that a carrier can just produce squadrons of fighters on the spot and recycle them back into storage until they're needed again.

One idea i had was pretty much this, but just for added cool factor the welders would spin around the ship as they move back out. Sorta like that full body scan they have at a lot of airports.

A very large surface area one on multiple extenders or using thrusters could be used to print capital ships. Even one of Tazoos super vessels could be possible. Sort of the reverse idea of some of the super asteroid miners out there.

You could make a specialized missile ship mass producing the parts it needs to make missiles, make missiles, and launch them, with multiple launch bays on all sides, point defence, and a mining drone or two, with as much automation and nanites as possible

Made a printer that created a 3million kg ship in 2 minutes. Only problem is my computer dies.

I really like the projectors, but I wish that the blueprints would have the saved groups and block settings from the prints, not be unprogrammed hulls, that you have to spend lots of time re-grouping and setting up. Some of them get into trouble with overdraws on power with all the blocks turning on to maximum.... hope to see improvements implemented soon to fix these issues! NOM
