For those watching… these work very well. Also, you can get away with a checker pattern for your drills. I would recommend solid on the outer edge but inside you can do checkered so you can put a camera and lights to view while drilling to know if you are past the ore. Also, right click on the way to the ore.

Hi, why don't you assign the drills in the toolbar? With that, you can drill with the right click and go down very quickly :)

The problem with that is he can't see what he's drilling through, and he wants to collect the gold. So, left click drilling ensures he'll get the gold.

I built a mining platform that only takes up 14 blocks tall 3 blocks wide and digs a 330 meter deep hole. It is stationary. I have built a ship that digs 70 meters deep. It has refineries to process some of the stone. I have two different styles. One Atmospheric and one Hydrogen power. On the steam workshop it is called the Ultra Mega Minner MK3 and MK4. The MK3 is Atmo, and MK4 is Hydrogen. I made the MK4 to go to space. They are both massive. Just a note: Because of the subgrid. You have to spawn it in with creative tools. Until Keen changes this. To get the full ship with the mining system it has to be spawned in. 🙂👍

By the way the damaged section of ground is from the stone being ejected from the ship. The stone caused the deformation. 👍

If you share inertia tensor on all your pistons you can string over 10 pistons to dig deeper and they won't shake. Also, I'm sure others have mentioned, you should Right-Click drill until you reach the depth you want then Left-Click drill to collect the ore. Assign the drills to your tool bar but use the Block option and not the group option. For automation you can use the PAM script. It is the best and works flawlessly.

In vertical miners, just deactivate the dampers when you are already digging, there is no damage for the drills at least when i do it

Why wouldn't you use the second mode on the drills to get down to the ore? You don't have to collect all that rock on top!

Why do you use a piston to join the lower section to the middle? Attempting to build this and I have found pistons are weak spots in heavy builds

You could add a large landing gear on a piston that attached to the sidewalls and slowly pulled you down if you were looking for some automation and then have some timer blocks turn off the landing leg retract the piston and then turn it back on relock repeat timer block function

add a drill to your hotbar and right click yo. That deletes everything in your way quickly.

When i saw the Thumbnail i thought that was a Doom's day Device 13:00 maybe you could Put weaker Booster one the ship and let the weight sink it into the ground and when you are Finish aktivate the stronger ones
