Ate you using timer blocks to disengage the rotor heads? Or how are you yanking the heads out? Thanks again for the inspiration.
@orlandolaurentiu7312 жыл бұрын
I think he uses timers to attach/detach the rotor heads.
@berkleyhuffman482 жыл бұрын
Most likely timers set to trigger themselves and attach/detach the rotor. That would be why when the turret was going in, it looked like it got sucked into place rather than sit there and then lock

"To the optimist, the glass is half full. To the pessimist it is half empty. To the engineer it is twice as big as it needs to be.... but a glass is not a gun. You always need more gun." -- Some nerd probably Love everything about this vid though, the walker is nicely done and the turret facility is well automated. This is everything space engineers wanted to be when it first came out.

Very impressive! I'm curious whether the whole thing is choreographed via a bunch of timer blocks or a script. I gave up on using timer blocks for any multi-step task that requires attaching/detaching things grids (whether using connectors, landing gear, merge blocks, or rotors), could never get them consistent enough and something would eventually break. Script-based state machines are more forgiving as they allow verifying that everything is correct before moving on to the next step.
@pocarski2 жыл бұрын
There's a trick where you can set a timer to trigger itself every tick (without scripts), this is very useful when you want to attach a rotor/hinge because it just snaps into place the moment it has a chance. Just set a timer's toolbar to attach the rotor, start itself, and also trigger itself immediately (in that order). Once triggered, this makes the timer attempt to attach a rotor part every tick until the timer is disabled.
@godmode86872 жыл бұрын
@@pocarski Wouldn that instantly reattack the rotor, after you detached it? I mean it needs to wait until it is far enough away, so the correct one gets reattached
@zedd812 жыл бұрын
@@godmode8687 Have another timer block to switch the first timer block form detach to attach. So for 20 seconds TB1 starts detach after it was grabbed, then when the object is far (like 20 sec) TB2 will stop the run of TB1 and switch from detach to attach to receive the new object. Or at least this is how I would do it.
@BeauZoe2 жыл бұрын
well it must have used scripts then, cause the thing doesn't appear to be covered in timer blocks.
@markvangorkum80912 жыл бұрын
It only needs 2 timer blocks. Those could easily be hidden in the body.

One of the most amazing Space Engineers build in a long time. I personally find putting a large grid gun on a small grid chassis doable but it's not eligent or easy. I gave up on the large grid upside down rotor and got sick of building my small grid chassis from underneath the rotor. I find its easier to just use a connector and a magnetic part to keep everything from clanging out.
