36:38 Early U.S. recon satellites did have, along with the film capsules, radio telemetered visual data, although at a much lower resolution. Light from a camera lens was scanned, encoded, and "written" onto a [very] large roll of film. Then the light image on the film was scanned and detected, as the signal to control the radio transmission. I'm pretty sure that system was largely designed by Polaroid, with Dr. Land having a significant hand in the engineering. From Secret Sentries in Space, by Phillip Klass, which is a great Spy Satellite 101 primer.

Though I thoroughly enjoyed this video, the real and profound danger of 'space junk' was not given enough emphasis. I believe that the History Channel or SciFi did an entire episode on the topic. It is mathematically inevitable that there will be so much debris that it will be impossible to maintain satellites in orbit... which is, umm, HUGE. And the effort required to clean it up is either ENOROMOUSLY EXPENSIVE or physically/technologically impossible. Bad news for future generations.

Agreed, this is an ever increasing threat to use of near-space vehicles. Several organizations are attempting to create a sane 'trash-collection' strategy and the (probable vehicles) that will accomplish this. But the problem is - as always - very difficult. And so little real progress has been made at this time. I think it is because no-one-oligarch wants to focus on this. Maybe Elon Musk will get a bee in his bonnet about it, and try to do something constructive with his team of brilliant engineers.

We could end up being trapped by our own space junk!! It’s much thicker than you might think!!
@TThalwitzer
@TThalwitzer Жыл бұрын
I disagree. We already have technology capable of either destroying or de-orbiting space junk to burn up on re-entry. I'm not convinced of it's huge danger, if we can so accurately track even some of the smallest pieces of debris. It has recently been proven that it is easier to alter the trajectory of space-borne objects, than we even imagined, with the recent deliberate satelite-meteor collision. It's a matter of priority though, I agree

Project Thor. It’s not as practical as it first seems because there just isn’t enough kinetic energy for the cost and you can’t target anything in a useful amount of time as it is just to hard to change the trajectory of the orbit.

We are apex predators. If humans didn’t have a warring instinct, we would still be in the Stone Age. Every inch of this planet has had blood spilled for it. Peace and civility are a thin veneer that quickly disappears when our primal instincts kick in. Every intelligent species on the planet has a dark violent side and we are no different. If aliens ever visit us, they will have a history of warfare as well.

I agree with comments made regarding this excellent documentary. The establishment of a 6th Branch of Armed Services for The US was definitely a necessary step. Space is no longer a benign environment - it is slowly by surely becoming a contested arena. Currently - there’s a great deal of junk in orbit - debris from satellite launches, booster separations, etc. This is becoming a problem. One Space Shuttle Window was slightly damaged when was impacted by a paint chip - traveling at 17,000 + MPH. Debris is not the only issue at stake. What if a rogue state decides to launch (a) satellite(s) designed to contaminate specific orbits used by commercial and/ or military satellites? Given the unpredictable nature of leaders such Kim Jong Un of North Korea 🇰🇵, such an action isn’t out of the realm of possibility.

It was a terrible lack of vision that JFK didn't intend to build a permanent lunar base than just having astronauts visit and walk on the moon for a few hours. I mean, had it been part of the original space race plan, then the space industry would be much more advanced today with (probably) frequent trips to Mars with a permanent colony and base operating on Mars. Similarly Elon Musk doesn't have a greater vision than colonising the red planet, when he should be thinking about Mars as a launchpad to venture into very deep space and possible generational ships to colonise distant Earth-like planets in other solar systems.

The test pilot of the Top-secret X-15 rocket plane admitted later after he landed, that an alien space plane flew circles around his X-15, while he was flying at mock 5 speed. This was child's play for the alien space plane. Aliens have been clocked by radar flying in the earth atmosphere at 15,000 mph. The alien space planes can fly in and out of the water and in and out of space with no problems. And using anti-gravity propulsion, these alien space planes can change direction instantaneously while flying at 5,000 mph with no problem. It is very cool watching them do this... Part of the space forces duties are to try to control the alien space planes flying over or near the USA's top secret defense installations, and cosmic top secret USAF and Navy installations. I have witnessed X6 alien space planes flying in very close formation and doing leap frogging over, under and around each other, and doing the leap frogging at right angles, at 600 mph very close to the ground (less than 500 feet off the deck). It will be many years before the USA or China can do these things, but they are working on space planes that will hopefully have some of these capabilities. I am not in favor of putting weapons into space, nor shooting at the alien space planes. QED

42:31 Well...Good job, India!! Granted, the satellite was in a low-earth orbit, but still... India is the only country that can claim...accurately...that they "shot down" a satellite. All of the others should be stating a bit more clearly the results of their trials. For instance, some countries could say that they "just" destroyed a satellite; or that they had detonated a warhead within its effectively lethal range from a satellite; or, even that they had succeeded in rapidly disassembling the satellite using a terrestrial based missile-launch technology, after which they had rapidly...basically instantaneously...disseminated the deconstructed satellite, randomly, in pretty much every direction... But, please; After you've "rapidly deconstructed and then instantaneously redistributed" a satellite; and after you've left those deconstructed bits and pieces in orbit, polluting our planet's Personal Space for potentially thousands of years; At this point, please don't say that you've succeeded in "shooting down" a satellite...or succeeded in "shooting down" Anything else, for that matter. The Trojan military believed that the wall of Troy was impregnable. Troy was invaded and plundered by the Greeks. The Roman military believed they could expand the Roman Empire indefinitely. Rome was invaded and plundered by barbarians. The French military believed that "La Grande Armée" would defeat Russia. France was defeated by winter and Napoleon lost power and freedom. The Nazi military believed that they were invincible and that they would conquer the entire world. Germany was also utterly defeated and destroyed by the Red Army with a little help from the US and England. Now it's the American military's turn to believe in the wonderful song of the sirens that always seduce the fools "You can be invincible, you will never be defeated if you control space, come, come, all my promises of victory will be fulfilled".

24:00 Reagan is so stupid publicly proposing weapons programs way ahead of their time. 25:20 By sheer coincidence, the cost of keeping up with the Americans contributes to the breakup of the USSR.

Here we go again. First car ended up a armoured vehicle tank. First plane became a jet fighter. First ship became battle ship frigate destroyer. First satilite became for Google etc. Now it is armed with lasers. When will warmongers stop trying to destroy mankind.

We need another space race!!!! As Much as it pangs me the reality is military is going to help advance space technologies! Just like they done in the past! Jet engine was designed for fighter jets before it went into commercial use! So space is going to be the same

Bigger budgets don't mean the ability to do greater things. The capital of Lockheed Martin and Boeing is huge compared to spacex but the latter performs better

I PERSONALLY CHOOSE TO CARE ABOUT, SHARE AND PEACEFULLY FULLY COOPERATE WITH ALL OF THE WORLDS PEOPLES !!!! IN AT LEAST TRYING TO MAKE ALL OF OUR OWN BABIES FUTURE PLANET, AND LIVES A MORE PEACEFUL, SUSTAINABLE, PLANET TO LIVE ON !!!!!! BY SOCIALLY COOPERATING WITH, AND PLANNING THE PLANETS FUTURE GEOPOLITICAL ARCHITECTURE TOGETHER. !!!! INSTEAD OF CONTINUALLY TRYING TO DEFEAT EACH OTHER !!!!! WE ALL MUST LEARN TO ACCEPT THE FACT THAT WE'RE ALL SHARING A COSMICALLY FLOATING EXTREMELY VULNERABLE BIOSPHERE !!!! ALONG WITH ALL OF THE OTHER ORGANISMS/SPECIES EXTREMELY VULNERABLE ECO SYSTEMS !!!!!! BY FINALLY BECOMING CIVILIZED ENOUGH TO GRASP THAT FACT !!!! WE CAN LEARN TO REFUSE TO HARM OR CONTINUALLY KEEP ON TRYING TO KILL OURSELVES, AND EACH OTHERS BABIES !!!! I REALIZE THAT IS A SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT THAT'S CURRENTLY BEING CALLED A WORLD WIDE COMMUNIST GOVERNMENT SYSTEM !!!!!! I WANT MY FUTURE BABIES ANCESTORS TO HAVE A FUTURE PLANET THAT'S WORTH LIVING ON !!!!! WHY ARE WE HU--MONKEYS SO UNCIVILIZED !!!! DON'T YOU WANT YOUR OWN FUTURE BABIES ANCESTORS TO HAVE A DECENT CHANCE FOR THEIR OWN FUTURE SURVIVAL ????????? CHOOSE AS WISELY AS POSSIBLE !!!!!! IT'S NOW TIME TO MAKE THAT PERSONAL CHOICE HU--MONKEYS !!!!!!!! YOUR FUTURE BABIES ANCESTORS LIVES REALLY ARE IN YOUR HANDS !!!!

The problem with the space program is limited to the present knowledge at, and the results of the hazards associated with it is still not perceived. Considering this year incident with the Chinese space craft. Too much speculation as in which continent would the wrecked will fall in. To called the attention of the advance countries to put the bio hazards associated with their programming into focus with all available resources at hand. By Nura KC Nigeria 🇳🇬
