Man... I'm so stoked for you. Space Hulk is my all time favorite board game (and I'm a collector), and I have both a resin printer and laser cutter. Lastly, I'm a professional game artist/modeller... So, the fact that I have made lots of game things before, but never a Space Hulk set, is kind of strange. But a proper set will take a LOT of space, and a LOT of print time, and a LOT of painting time. It's just such a daunting DAUNTING task. So, it's very very cool to see you taking this on, so I can live vicariously through you. I really love the 3D set you have decided on there as well, it seems like an absolute PERFECT model set. Please keep us updated :)

But for free time board game stuff I usually just post some things over on the Glowforge user forums, typically with free attached art files. I'll reply with a couple links.

First, thank you for sharing these ideas. I have Heroscape and had been thinking about making a 3D board for that one. Second, this looks fantastic. I am going to research the game because I had never heard of it. I am excited to try and print some of these out for other games, one is Gloomhaven. I don’t think I can attach the pictures of the tree, and a couple other printed items. Tree took 17 hours for the top and 7 for the truck. Details are fantastic! So I am interested in printing a board I’m 3D like this for possible other games I have. I have Ravenloft and have been researching that for possible 3D printing. Don’t want to take up too much of your time, but thank you again for sharing ideas.

I purchased the Dragon's rest HVAC tunnels to start on this project. But there aren't any instructions for if you are printing this specifically to make space hulk terrain (maybe there are legal reasons for that.) How do I know which pieces to print, as well as in what quantity? Has anyone put together a PDF on how to use these to create the necessary pieces for space hulk?

I discovered your channel about a week ago and have been devouring your videos. Great job on this channel! I'm interested in getting into 3D printing, do you think it's better to start with FDM or resin printing? I'd love to print terrain (which seems to be better for FDM printing) but I'm a bit of a budget and resin printers seem to be much more economical, but that would limit me to smaller pieces and miniatures. Any suggestions on where to start?
@gaminggeek2414 жыл бұрын
If you are doing terrain, I would definitely choose an FDM printer over resin. You can get a good FDM printer for about the same price as an entry-level resin (around $300) and in the long run, PLA is going to be much cheaper than making large resin prints. My very first printer (Flashforge Finder) had a small build plate of about 5" cube and I felt that was too small for terrain--a resin build plate is even smaller. A ton of people have the Creality Ender 3 and you can get the pro version right now for only $239. Also, if you want to see the Ender 5, wait a week...

Q: if you scale the pieces up to 135%, doesn't make the clip holes too big? I guess you print some 135% clips too?
@recowabunga72004 жыл бұрын
All right!!! I'm about to start printing this baby. Decision making time: I'm just wondering, in retrospect, is 135% still what you would recommend? Would you (if you were to start over) print at 140% or 137%, or would you still stick to 135%, repent-less?
@gaminggeek2414 жыл бұрын
I would stick with 135 but I don't have my termies on the larger bases (IIRC, the larger bases are 40mm). I would make the decision based on the base size of your minis.

@@gaminggeek241 I've got the 2014 fourth version of Space Hulk - i'm gonna stick to 135% given what i know. What brand of PLA did you use for the project, and did you prefer printing in black instead of grey? I went all in for the whole Dragons Rest Outpost set, just waiting for the rest of the files for in the set to be completed. I'm looking to make tiles for Star Saga, Star Breach, Stargrave and some other skirmish games. Going to be putting my FLSUN QQ-S Pro Delta and Ender 3 Pro to good use.
@gaminggeek2414 жыл бұрын
I use Hatchbox and in the past, have also used Overture, both from Amazon. Some of my Patreon supporters like using ESun +, although I've never tried it. I print in black because if the piece scratches, it's hard to tell. But if your color scheme favors grey or silver, feel free to use that instead. Good luck!
@CaptainBipto4 жыл бұрын
@@gaminggeek241 I've tried Geeetech PLA around £20GBP a roll and got good results. I have a 32 litre box of terrain to paint lol Also tried BQ brand PLA around £15GBP a roll when I started 3d printing. As I didn't want to waste more expensive rolls initially on test runs, and things like openlock clips etc... I tend to use grey PLA so I can see more clearly any defects and leftover clean-up from removing supports. My FLSUN is my main printer, static bed with autoleveling. Just installed a Bigtreetech filament sensor. Good thing the firmware is already setup for the sensor.
