Absolutely! One of the best ever. I think the sound is really creative too, it's so simple but iconic for the time.

Space invaders Took me to another world . Spent many hours addicted to getting that high score in the pizza shop Back in 78 and then this beauty. Man I wish I could go back but I’m glad I got to “ Be there “ when these things dropped. Wonderful memories

Awesome and much more difficult. I remember seeing this in Bowcraft in Scotch Plains, NJ for the first time. I got wind of skimming the top invaders for the bonus points, and was giddy to find out that the 22-14 trick worked. But then it hit you with those surprises and different saucers. Thanks for the video. Good trip down memory lane.
@LyonsArcade8 жыл бұрын
I heard about the 22-14 thing but I've never been able to play that 'deep' and keep count while I'm playing. I've heard the really good guys at Missile Command count bases and levels and things too, to the point that they need someone standing beside them doing the math (lol) but I've never been that hardcore. We're filming a regular Space Invaders too , will have the video up in a couple weeks on here.
@gynandroidhead8 жыл бұрын
Great. Yeah, when you do the 22-14, the saucers are worth 300 points. For the original, I believe you could not get a saucer if there were less than nine invaders remaining. I look forward to seeing the next video.

You mention a bit about the sound at the end, which was something I was thinking about while watching you play. I don't know if we give the classic creators enough credit for their sound design and how important it is in many of these early games. They had such limited resources that they had use to every tool available to them to enhance their game. The increasing pulse in both Space Invaders & Asteroids is a visceral part of playing the game. It's simply not as fun to play without the sounds. Pac-Man's wakka-wakka, Moon Patrol's jaunty driving music, hell, even the paddle hit in Pong is a perfectly designed sound and so important to the game. Just idle thoughts as I work through your old videos. :)
@LyonsArcade6 жыл бұрын
Galaga is one of the really perfect ones. Everything down to the credit sound is perfect. We've got a "Thief" in the shop, we're still working on it... they had sound effects during the game and music... but at the same time, they had a tape recorder that played cop banter while you play the game on a long loop.
@ochsj19715 жыл бұрын
On the third board, the saucers stop and drop the triangular invaders and the add to the top row. If you shoot them while they are dropping, they fall to the bottom and block you from shooting another invader being dropped from a saucer.

My SI De luxe has lived up to its name as a true space invader in my home. Apparently it's heavy too. Over the years it was sinking into the floor. It left these deep indentations ala Norma Bates, and I had to move it. The floor has been repaired for a couple years now, but my cabinet is still in my bedroom. Wow....I just wanted to comment that the store that you couldn't remember the name of back in the day where you could get a black light(the stoner type) is probably Spencer's.

Hi Joe! Because of this video I'm a better player of Space Invaders Deluxe (or II) and original Space Invaders. I had no idea that you are supposed to eliminate the ends first in order to stall them from going down. Now I have a tip for you: Either spend very little time or no effort at all to fire at a top fly by ship. It allows the body of ships time to become too much of a threat.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try that out!

Shoot out ALL of the 👾 on the top rows and leave ALL of the 👾 on the BOTTOM row until last, and then take them all out... you get a "fireworks" display on the next screen. It's one of the 1st "secret" easter eggs ever. I did it on my very last game before I fried mine... which was on it's last legs before becoming a parts machine. Glad I gave it a proper send off.

Beautiful Game. They basically improved on the classic original game. I’ve had my Deluxe since 1999. Better features than the original. Aliens landing in formation, aliens splitting in 2, a flashing saucer up top, a saucer that drops reinforcements, an intermission screen and even the ability to write your name or profanities at the top of you get the high score as I first discovered in the spring of 1980 !!!
@LyonsArcade5 жыл бұрын
Definitely an improvement in every way :)
@gynandroidhead4 жыл бұрын
It certainly is a gorgeous game, and the Midway version is a lot harder than the Taito version. The blinking saucer on the Midway version is only worth 200 points, and the Invaders start to split and drop down reinforcements on the second level as opposed to the 4th level for Taito. Despite the improvements to the game, this game did not take off in popularity, and Asteroids Deluxe didn't either. People got very spoiled playing forever on a quarter, and those who were respectable at this game would get buried more quickly on this one (it also took 1,500 points to get an extra life as opposed to 1,000). Next to Gorf, this is my absolute favorite game that I can still play very well, even in my AARP years. The only difference is that I need to take Aleve before a session!

Hi there again :). Yep I'm enjoying these classic video game presentations. I see exactly what you mean about the Space Invaders sound section. This deluxe version has a higher pitched attack sound on the invaders compared to the game that you did all kinds of repairs on with the monitor and sound troubleshooting. I was wondering and maybe you can research it and present a video on another of these games where resister or capacitor values are different for the sound and see if raising the resister or capacitor value makes the sound pitch higher or lower. I was actually wondering if there's a way to put an adjustment pot to tweak the sounds to personalize them for their own specific game? Now that I've seen how pretty basic these games are constructed; I sure would love to own a few if I had the money and the room to buy them. I'd have to add another room in my house to accommodate these upright games since they are 6 foot tall and at least 3 foot wide. Love the presentations :)))))))

Why does my cabinet have a woodgrain control board where the buttons are. There isn't any graphics. I can't find anything like it online. Serial number 4280

The original control panel is just flat wood with a sticker on it, yours probably got damaged or cigarette burnt so they removed the artwork to make it look cleaner.

+Joe's Classic Video Games thanks. I was wondering about that for a long time. I'm trying to sell it and need to know that kinda stuff. What's the value of an all original cabinet condition is a 6/10 I'd say. It has a piece of the leather strap on the front left missing for about a foot and is a little beaten up but it turns on and can be played.

You have to play the game in person and on an actual machine to experience it in all its glory. Even in my mid-50's I can still pop around 7,000 points on average playing this about 4-5 times per year at my local retro arcade.

Yeah, you can't emulate the mirror and background effect. It's spectacular! 🤩 Normally I won't bother about those miniature arcade cabinets, because they are so small and tiny, and not comfortable to play. But I got a miniature Space Invaders, because it has built in the exact same effect, with coloured plastic on the monitor and all.

I have one and the bottom of the screen isn't visible (you can only see the very tip of the spaceship). Do you think this would be a monitor or a mirror placement problem?
@LyonsArcade4 жыл бұрын
It's probably the monitor, it depends on what type of monitor it is but there's usually a 'horizontal position' adjustment, or worst case you can adjust it by turning the centering rings on the actual tube of the monitor (they're on the yoke)...
@joewilliams52834 жыл бұрын
@@LyonsArcade I tried turning the rings, but it didn't work. I was hoping there was something else you've seen. My goal is to get in there this weekend, recap the chassis (it needs it anyways), and see if I can adjust the mirror or monitor mount to make it work. I'll let you know if I figure it out.
