Why does the time stop show a butterfly?

It always appears whenever you collect the time stop capsule. It happened on the original arcade game too (including Super Space Invaders ‘91).

Maybe a reference to the butterfly effect? In the frozen time, you can change what could have been a grisly fate. Who knows... I had never seen this game before, so realising this butterfly showed up during time stop strangely enough helped me to understand why it was such a huge motif for the GROOVE COASTER series.
