Back in the 80s, my dad became a partner with my Godfather in a fast food (take away) shop and it was a walk in and somehow, he got his hands on a original Space Invaders two seat table cabinet. It never fit inside the shop, so instead it sat in our living room for years. It was a great gathering spot for us kids and our friends or cousins. Since it was in the living room, it doubled as a kids table as well. We would eat on it, hell I would even sit on it just to watch tv. Wish we still had it.

Taito's trend of creating retro compilations that lock certain games behind the collector's editions and/or pre-orders is really scummy. I could sort of understand this if they were some big-ass games that had to be put on an extra cartridge/disc in order to include everything physically, but it's a bunch of Space Invaders games! These games are tiny!

I'm glad I passed on this collection. Taito is definitely cash grabbing with all of the "perks" here. Had they just released a Switch cart with all of the games on the cart, with a nich reversible insert + manual for $39.99 I'd have bought that.

Actually Strictly Limited Games shoes have those collection of Space Invaders games on a Switch cart - but for the slightly increased price of €59.99.

They are re-releasing this next month in japan with all the games from the special edition. Basically everything in one version and it's cheaper than it would have cost to buy the regular first version.

I love Space Invaders, but sad the Xbox Live Game isn’t in it. I only played the demo, but always wanted to play. It seems to not be up anymore I can’t find the mobile versions. Space Invaders IG was more like a shoot em up and like the original game it looked awesome.

Infinity Gene is on Google Play still, but unfortunately it didn't survive the 32-bit apocalypse on iOS. Highly recommend it and the rhythm spin-off Groove Coaster.

Excellent video! I was quite intrigued by how the board game plays, and couldn't find anything about it online. I would ❤️ to see a comparison video between the 2 board games! Just to let to know - Strictly Limited Games has a few bundles involving this game, one of them (the Ultra Collector's Edition) contains some other things - including the board game! I wish that I could buy the Switch game - and the board game both separately. Thank you for the awesome video!

Space Invaders is one those game which because there were versions made by companies for their machines with different names, it because hard to say what exactly it is you love. I've played it the arcade, the Atari and Texas Instrument as well as one of those random plug and plays. They're all in the end the same game, but I think of TI Invaders as the definitive version because that's what I played the most. So to me, that's Space Invaders.

Even the most basic game-only version seems way overpriced for what you're getting. It didn't seem to have much in the way of extras, and not even having challenges for every game? That feels lazy. Plus, like he said, they omitted a TON of games, and left it with a pretty weak lineup. I've got this feeling Taito's planning a "sequel" collection so they can squeeze even more money out of people.

Hi Daniel, I enjoyed the video but was wondering what that switch accessory at 12mins and 10 seconds in the video is called. It let you play handheld mode with the screen sitting vertically. Also keep up the great work.

You forgot Space Invaders Extreme 2 which was on the NDS I'd love to see the more obscure games in there, maybe by the time it has a western release they'll have added some games. Also hope eight player can be played in Gigamax, using split joycons. Arkanoid VS Space Invaders I have on my phone... hate it. Nice its preserved but it needs a redesign.

I've always wished classic games could get lavish 'super deluxe' sets like they do with albums. Taito's been doing a good job with that lately. Strictly Limited Games has been bringing some of those over (Bubble Bobble, Darius), and I hope they localize this one too.

Thanks for the review. I can understand you love it and feel it great. I myself will give it 4 out of 6 stars. For the price.. it comes across as a bit lackluster. On top of it..the lack of extra modes in each game is a POOR excuse. If one owner Hyperspin one could easely find way more good variation on Space Invaders. As the game collection and as a complete package the release gives too little value. The release is made out of a business mindset and NOT as a tribute of LOVE for the game.

I'm not fond of this and Taito's other earlier Darius Cozmic Collection necessitating buying the Special Edition with the additional gubbins to get the other games. I really just care about the games and the extra stuff is not necessary to me. Thankfully, I didn't need to buy the Famitsu version so I only paid $168 US. It also sat in customs for a month, as I only got it yesterday. And both games also have that "Amazon Japan Prime Day" exclusive game - Darius' was the Game Boy version of Sagaia. Yeah, it's not even just an amazon.jp exclusive... you have to pre-order it on Prime Day to get the extra game. What rubbish! Makes me scared to see how Darius Cozmic Collection 2 will shake out.

I love that Taito are releasing games again but I really don't like the way they're going about it. If you want to make a lavish collector's edition for your super fans that's fine, but what's not fine is locking entire games behind that collector's edition. Even back on the gen 6 consoles Taito Legends 2 had several games that where exclusive to either the PS2 or Xbox and that was pretty scummy to begin with, but at least those collections had way more games and didn't cost $200. If you're going to sell a compilation celebrating a series' history let everyone who buys it play all the games for crying out loud!
