A little trick I want to share with the community, as shared by a former Forge World painter: If you're doing Decals, apply all of your micro cuts and then apply it as normal, but then run a hair dryer on high over it for a handful of seconds. This slightly melts the adhesive and makes it lie completely and totally flat, as well as reducing the chance of it coming off. I hope this information helps everyone the way it's helped me!

I have to say, I find Micro Sol an absolute godsend when placing decals. It completely eradicates any chance of the trapped micro air bobble giving that silvery surround. That said, your method seems to work fine. Good job.
@JayAndNightASMR3 жыл бұрын
1 thing I found that helps, is make very small cuts along the outside with a scalpel. Then wet and carry on as normal. Can be tricky at first, but gets rid of wrinkles and air pockets

Cant remember the brand name but someone made stencils that fit over the regular marine pauldrons with chapter designs or squad markings on them so all you do is place it over the pauldron and paint up the gap with the correct colors.

Same here, need to learn how to freehand my chapter symbol, thought this video would be useful, sadly I can't use it. I can't even use the highlighting tips since I run Storm Wardens and they have metallic shoulderpads.
@KyrieFortune3 жыл бұрын
@@pinoarias8601 afaik you can use the same technique with metallic paint But yeah, it's always irritating when they say to use decals, well, show me where they are, because I can't find Blood Angels decals anywhere (not an obscure chapter, one of the most played and represented ones)! And if I find them, they are overpriced, don't ship to my country (Italy, not exactly the middle of nowhere) or on a sheet with every major chapter, which I don't really care atm - apart from my BA units, I have one White Scar model, an older model of Korsarro Khan that has the Chapter symbol already embedded in the shoulder pad, and that's it. It's annoying, really, I know hand-painting is a drag but I wish more people would show it as an option. The only hand-painted tutorial I can systematically find is for Lamenters...

@paintandplayminis3283 жыл бұрын
I normally don't like using shoulder pads at all with an mini but this made it look so easy!
I cannot recommend enough that anyone using decals gets himself/herself those two products : MICROSOL and MICROSET . They'll make your life so much easier if you want to apply decals , even on the most curved surfaces , without a hassle , a bubble or a single wrinkle ! They're easily available at every hobby store / modelling store , they're awesome setting solutions for decals . Water is just not enough for a smooth result :/ And cutting into them leaves visible marks . Start by dabbing a little Microset on the shoulder pads or whatever with a q-tip , and add the decals as usual once it's softened with water . The Microset will help soften it further and it will conform to the shoulder pad without making any wrinkle . It might seem to wrinkle a little at first but it will flatten out :) Then with another q-tip , carefully brush a little Microsol over it , and that will fully help to set the decal , soften out any remaining wrinkle and make it appear more " painted on " rather than super shiny like most decals tend to be . Upvote this comment so everyone can read it and make the task of applying decals a true piece of cake :D

@@MiniatureMasterClass I'm not here to start a debate about which is better or which is "pro" , Microsol works just fine for Warhammer , and i'm sure the Tamiya equivalent somehow works better , but my goal here is just to help people with their decals . Realized today my first two kits, I put the wrong shoulder pads on a few of the arms, in each kit. They are/were death company and sanguinary guard kits, and being my first kits I didnt know it mattered regarding the chapter icon and squad markings, and just went with what looked cool. A few just in happenstance are placed correct, but the rest as backwords with the BA wings on their right arms, and the left arms with the decorated squad ones. On one hand I might just leave them and say fuck it, but another part of me is annoyed and im tempted to cut them up to fix, but it might get messy.
