I remember begging my parents to go on this ride when I was five and they were giving me a strange look but I told them that I went on it a ton before (we lived in florida at the time)....I thought it was the buzz lightyear ride....now I have mental scars that i'm reminded of every time I go on a dark roller coaster.

My sister lost her back pack on this ride and the weird part is that we felt something fly by our faces but couldn't tell what it was and after realized it was her bag. EDIT: It's 5 years later, and I was pretty young when I wrote this comment. I realize now that I left some stuff out when I wrote it. Basically, my dad was put in charge of holding my sister's backpack (she was only 7 or 8). This trip was probably about a decade or so ago (give or take), but I don't remember ever hearing anything about there being a space to hold larger items like backpacks. They may have changed it, but I have no idea since it has been so long since I've been there. He was holding it down at the bottom of the coaster trying to keep it safe, but just the way it jostled around made him lose his grip. We DID end up getting her the backpack back, but unfortunately, some stuff was stolen from it. It was impossible that the stolen stuff flew out. The stuff that my mom clearly remembered putting ON TOP of the stolen items before we got on the ride (Minnie mouse hat and sunglasses) were both still there, so they couldn't have flown out. Fortunately, Disney was super accomodating and gave us some type of voucher to make up for the stolen products. Besides the stolen items, from what I remember, Disney was super good about returning stuff and making sure we had a positive experience! If you ever lose something on a ride don't be afraid to nicely ask the employees to keep an eye out for it. They are all very kind people and are always willing to lend a hand!

Went on this ride 17 years ago with my parents. My mom thought it was a slow moving ride like pirates of the Caribbean. As soon as it started going, she started screaming bloody murder, haha, I mean she was crying and everything man, me and my dad were laughing our asses off. Ahhhh man good times. Wow, what plush seating! This was my very first coaster ride at age 16, with my Dad, and the old trains were basically a bench that may or may not have had seat belts. We got bounced around a bit, and it was an amazing ride. My cousin and I went for a second ride later that day to sit in the back. That made the ride much scarier. 😳

My grandparents took us on a surprise trip tp Disney when I was 6 in 1976. This was the first roller coaster I ever rode, and to this day it remains my favorite! The seats used to be one long bench where everyone sat one in front of the other (4 to 6 people depending on how big you were) and there were only little handles on the side of the cars to hold on and a little seat belt. I remember my legs shaking when I got off the first time. Its so hard to capture this ride on video, but there are shooting stars and light projections of galaxies and you even see the other cars going around (they are glow in the dark.) One time when I was older in 1983, they let us ride with the lights on inside as they were working on it... That was weird...lol

Stephen Nuttall Let me tell you, that I rided it in 2000 and it felt very scary, I couldn´t watch and closed my eyes, hoping it to end. Didn´t have a very good time in it. I believe darkness made it worse. I felt sick after it and couldn´t ride anything else in the hole day. Bad experience for me. I love Disney but that ride, I don´t know.

I love Disney, but this ride and rockin' roller coaster. I just can't handle it! When I rode Space Mountain, somehow, when I got out, my wrist was hurt, and I had a splitting headache. All of the jerking, loud sounds, and being in the dark terrified me. I've never been on it again.

This is the Space Mountain I remembered. Dark and fast. 👍🏼 But the one I was on at Disney World..I couldn't see the person next to me it was that dark. I couldn't see when it would turn or drop. Boy was it fast!!! This was in the 90s.

Good video, nice night vision images although there wasn't that much to see in them. Still, I'm just as glad to have missed this one when I was there years ago. The most interesting part of the ride was the before and after; guess I'm not as into these rides as I thought.

Honestly to me, the night vision part shows one thing that our own eyes don't, which you can see at multiple parts: the 'spotlights'. With the camera set to normal (infrared mostly filtered out with normal light as the main), you can see just the violet glow (dull red to your average eye) of the infrared lights. Meanwhile with the night vision on (no normal light, only the infrared range) those lights suddenly become full wash spotlights. Usually paired with an infrared camera of their own to monitor the track.

This was the first rollercoaster I ever rode, I rode it when I was 8 yrs old. Well, I didn't want to, but my mom forced me to. She even told me that it wasn't a rollercoaster. I had a feeling she was tricking me, cuz there was a poster that said "Space Mountain" and it had a pic of a rollercoaster. I told her that it was gonna be like that poster, and she said it was just other rides. Srsly!? Then, when we were in the line, so many people were looking and pointing at me when their child was crying. And I already knew that this was a rollercoaster, cuz I heard what they were saying in Chinese. So then, I got on the ride and there we go!! The ride started, it was fast. I got really scared!! I just closed my eyes for the whole ride. I was holding my mom and the handrail so tight. I was even sweating!! But then the ride finished, I was feeling relief! Whew! Next time I know to never trust my mom again when going to themeparks or when going on rides!

Hannah Elkins you cant really see much. Last time i went to disney it took me about 30 minutes to get on. Best time to go is the day before a hurricane. almost nobody there during that time just because they leaving.

When my parents and grandparents and took me when I was 6 they would try to make me go on but I was so freaking scared. Every time. Then when I was 10 I finally rode it. But While my family rode it my grandma took me on the people mover. Now I absolutely am not afraid of any coaster.

Go to Busch Gardens and try Montu, Kumba and Sheikra - they do about 65 mph as opposed to Space Mountain doing about 30mph and are a LOT more intense than any ride in Disneyworld

If you ever go to Universal Studios in Florida, ride the Jurrasic Park ride. It has an 85 foot drop at the end. I loved it

Splash mountain can be very scary for your first time because of the pause before the big drop it causes you to get anxious of when your going to drop and space mountain is super fun too!

The first time I went to splash mountain I didn't even think the last drop was the worst, the dark drops are the worst to me, but the Universal Orlando Studios one (I think it's rip side falls?) the drop in that one is like hell compared to the disney one.

There are four fairly significant drops midway through. To point them out individually: 4:40 4:50 4:56 5:02 They're not that bad, but it really depends on where you sit. Front's pretty mellow for the most part, but the back has a ton of air going over the drops. If you don't like the dropping sensation, try to stick to the front car. If you're like me and really enjoy that feeling, back seat's the way to go.

It really isn't that bad. There aren't any upside down parts, all of the hills have a curve to it do your gut doesn't really hurt, and, it's mostly just a bunch of turns in the dark. Also, after the beginning with the blue tunnel is where they take your picture, so it hints that there isn't a surprise for a gigantic hill.

It's not bad. I have NEVER gone on SM and I never will. My mom actually went on it as a kid, she loved it but she knew I hated being in the dark because of the [MUSTNOTBENAMEDBECAUSENIGHTMARES] ride that Stitch replaced. Now every time I'm in the dark I feel like the Ali-[MUST NOT BE NAMED BECAUSE NIGHTMARES] is coming to find me and kill me. And I'm scared of big drops because *points to "Splash Mountain" and "Primeval Whirl" rides* espicially backwards. I WILL NEVER FORGIVE, PRIMEVAL "HURL". So yeah, begging not go on the ride is normal.

Space Mountain does not go upside-down. It's a lot of steep turns and sudden drops. You definitely feel the ride. It's rickety and makes you disoriented so you can never guess what's going to happen next. It's also near totally dark, although you can see a little bit of the track and some of the other trains that glow in the dark. But it's a pretty dark thrill ride. It's considered one of the WDW classics and one of the most popular rides there. I'm not a roller coaster person, but Space Mountain has my vote and I could go on it ten times a day. Worst line to stand in if it's really busy, although they did upgrade it a little bit to keep you busy near the entrance. Definitely FastPass it if you can. It really doesn't matter which seat you're in. Each ride train is two rockets, each rocket consisting of three seating sections where you sit by yourself. It's 3 and 3, and they're attached in the middle. You can sit anywhere. The view doesn't matter, and the ride experience is basically the same in any seat. The front seat might feel a bit open when you first get in because the front car doesn't have anything in front of it to makes you feel closed in, but once the ride starts, you won't see anything anyway. You can tell which rides don't go upside-down by the seat restraint. If it's a lap bar of any kind, the ride does not go upside-down. If it has a shoulder harness, it probably goes upside-down. Only two rides at WDW go upside-down: Rock N' Rollercoaster and Mission: Space, which is a motion simulator, not a rollercoaster. Rock N' Rollercoaster has three inversions, but you really don't notice them because it's dark, so you can't tell how high up you are. You can't see walls, the ceiling, or the floor. It's lit up with neon road signs and stuff. It has a neat atmosphere to it, and the ride goes fast enough to where it's smooth and very little rocking. You never get a stomach-drop feeling on the ride like you do with Space Mountain. Rock N' Rollercoaster is actually a pretty mild ride. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad and Space Mountain are considered the more "violent" roller coasters, although BTMR is a pretty slow ride and doesn't feel all that fast. It's a child-friendly roller coaster. Rock N' Rollercoaster is more adult themed based on the visual appearance of the ride and the music, but it's a very smooth and comfortable experience. If you like rides that go somewhat fast but don't go upside-down, Rock N' Rollercoaster is pretty safe because you don't notice is goes inverted and it's designed for entertainment. Disney hit big with this one. The train is very long and you sit side-by-side, two people in each seating area. I recommend the front seat just because you get a better view as the ride starts and you get to see all of the signs and visuals the whole ride duration.
