As a 12 year old boy back in 1981 I still find this absolutely fascinating. John Young and Robert Crippen are heroes to me .

I wish comments like this could back to these gentlemen’s families …I have the absolute utmost respect for John Young, and of course Crip. But man, I love me some John Young, what an absolute bad man. Represented what I strive to be. God bless you John and RIP, Godspeed

John and Crip. Humorous men, then and now.

Their mention about stuff flying off the tank and missing tiles is haunting

John's deadpan delivery was one of the highlights of his personality. The man walked on the freaking Moon and he dealt with it like it was nothing!

It was a very roomy crew cockpit for just 2 astronauts. I thik they took advantage of that and had good times. Next crews weren't that lucky. 7 people crew is quite a big number.

Young and Crippet never imagine the new technology because both were the old school astronaut
@axr71496 жыл бұрын
Interestingly, both were selected as NASA astronauts in the 1960's, although this was Crippen's first ever spaceflight. As a matter of fact, many astronauts selected in the 60's had to wait over a decade a half to finally fly in the Shuttle era, including Story Musgrave (who was selected in 1967 but had to wait until 1983 to make his first spaceflight, and has since gone on to fly 5 additional times), Don L Lind (the record holder for the widest gap between astronaut selection and first flight (selected in 1966, but finally flew in 1985)), and more.

@@axr7149 From all of the 60s astronauts, no one got a worse deal than Don Lind. A whopping 19 years before he could make his trip into space.

@@IronMan-tk8uc that when you are not pilots (although Lind and Bruce McCandless were selected in pilot group, due to their advanced degrees, they were considered scientist-astronauts from almost get-go) plus Lind had trouble with George Abbey, which further delayed his flight

Interesting to see when crew walks into the Astro Van there are not teams of armored guards like we see in later Shuttle missions.
