Thanks for this one! Spaceballs is one of Mel Brooks' funniest parodies, where Nothing, not Star Wars, not Star Trek, not Planet of the Apes, or even Transformers: the Movie, was sacred. Even the G. I. Joe Defiant Shuttle Complex got in on the act. So many scenes to appreciate- my three faves are: 1. Capt. Lone Starr (a play on both Han Solo and Filmation's Bravestarr): "The first thing we do is we Drop the matching luggage!" 2. Dark Helmet: "You IDIOTS! You captured their STUNT Doubles!" 3. Colonel Sandurz: "No, Sir! I did not see you playing with your toys again, Sir!"

I always thought it would be funny if Mel Brooks Came back to this, and did a Parody Special Edition, including deleted scenes, but of coruse, just filming new stuff with the actors as they were older, and sticking them into the original movie,

They were talking about Spaceballs 2 around the time The Phantom Menace came out. I loved reading the novelisation as a child, years before I actually saw the movie on TV. So many great lines ("They jammed the radar" is one of mine).

It's not that he (George Lucas) didn't want Mel Brooks to make money off of merchandising... it's that he didn't want a line of merchandise out there that could possibly be confused with Star Wars merchandise.
