Haven't been watching for a bit, but just finished catching up! Glad to see you are still building one of the most helpful communities around and supporting a great OS being unraid. I simply cannot wait to see what you do with the Midnight Commander Video. I think folks will really appreciate that tool. Great video! I started out using the Local method but sometimes nextcloud just wouldnt load that share. Now I use the smb method and it's been much more reliable. Nothing I use it for requires the extra speed I would get from using local so it works for me.

I was afraid to use the photo upload feature of Nextcloud, because I couldn't easily manage the uploaded content from multiple users, but with a single external share this just replaced the unreliable resilio-sync docker for me (after a few days it would just stop uploading new pictures, even though I removed all battery optimization features for that app)

Tip: If you want to map a single root folder for all your data, set the folder name to / so when you open up Nextcloud you’re immediately presented with your share.

Problem / Question: If I connect an external storage to Nextcloud and add a file from the Nextcloud interface, the uploaded file's permissions are -rw-r--r--. This means that I cannot, through SMB, make any changes to that file. It is locked into Nextclound's permissions. If I go into terminal and chmod the file, Nextcloud switches it back if I make any changes from the Nextcloud interface. Does anyone know of a way around this? I want to be able to use Nextcloud and SMB in combo.

Thanks for another fantastic How-To Guide Ed! With Nextcloud greatly improving their Photos functionality - it would be great if you could do a walkthrough on setting up the Recognize AI plugin App and adding GPU passthrough functionality to the Nextcloud Docker container so that Recognize (and other future AI plugins that are no-doubt coming down the road) can utilize them. (A guide on the enabling Preview Generator with video and document previewing would be great too! The only video guide out there on this doesn't seem to work within a Docker container install.)

One issue I've had in the past with adding my shares as local external storages in Nextcloud is that Nextcloud won't detect when you make changes through other means like modifying your files from your main PC over a windows SMB share. Since the only options Nextcloud gives you for "when to check for updates" option is once per direct access (which won't trigger from something like an SMB write) or never - i.e. there's no "once every 6 hours" option - these changes might never get noticed by Nextcloud until they appear as errors the next time you try to manually sync weeks or months later. You can add a cron job to periodically force a manual rescan of the entire storage, but this isn't practical for huge external storages like a media library. Using the SMB type external shares in nextcloud rather than local type *might* avert this issue, but I'm not 100% sure.

hello everything is set up according to the Nextcloud AIO video and works fine... however when i try to use "external storages" to link to unraid, the option for "Local" is not there.... only Amazon, FTP, Nextcloud, OpenStack, SFTP, SMB and WebDevv is there.... there is no such option for Local.... is there anything wrong? couldnt sync my unraid to nextcloud using desktop client as it is super laggy and slow... plus can you teach a tutorial on how to increase the max file size limit? as it is now set at only 512mb

Hey Ed. Love the videos you do, they're so informative. I'd just like to ask though, using nextcloud or openvpn is great for accessing files from outside the network, but is there any chance of doing a video that shows how to connect 2 unraid servers that are on different networks and use something along the lines of Duplicati to keep backups of important family photos offsite in the event that my house is broken into, have a fire or my main machine breaks. (Edit. Not sure if it makes the method different, but I'd like to be able to sync from my local unassigned disk to the offsite array)

NICE! THNXZ for all your videos! But... i need some help here. Got everything working, but when i try to download a large file it gets interupted at 2gb, always. After searched on google about it, it seems to be some kind of limitation settings. But i cant figure how to fix it. Would love it if you could post a quick fix.

One idea for a tip video is on updating Nextcloud. I just went through lots of hair pulling... I thought that with always updating the Docker to Latest, that it updated the Nextcloud version. Well it broke due to the php8 update and I am now upgrading through the cli from v19 one version at a time to get to 25. I must have missed that part since I thought the Docker image was the Nextcloud instance.

I actually found the answer for anyone having the same issue. On docker map container /data/nextcloud/files_external to host /var/www/html/data map your volume in /var/www/html/data and make sure in NextCloud after you map it to the drive you refresh each page when you open it the first time. I have my encrypted rclone mapped to that folder so I can share files with friends.

I was able to successfully add my SMB share through external storage support. My problem is when l go to download a file from this folder it will download up to 500 MB and then stop and eventually disconnect, uploading is not a problem. Is there any way to fix this issue?

I've had nextcloud for a few months, and after some updates, I realised there were many errors happening. Like if after updating (inside the docker and of the docker itself). When droping many small files, some wouldn't upload. Many different errors and somethimes failing to start... Any idea if this is normal today with nextcloud and if it could become a more reliable solution (specially when uploading encripted files that cannot be opened outside nextcloud). Thanks!

Everytime I sync a large file usually 3+ GB file the desktop client nextcloud always gives an error and I can't find a solution to this exactly. I have done multiple times Google search and tried everyone suggestion but no avail. Hope you can have a video on troubleshooting errors on nextcloud.

Fab and really useful as always! i do have a Nextcloud toutorial request if you get a chance. I have been having issues getting recursive/reapting tasks to work the native app for some reason doesn't support reapting tasks and i haven't found an easy method that can be intergrated into nextcloud. I really want to get Tasks and calander events to be able to setup in nextcloud and be viewed and modfied via a mobile app. Thanks!

Here's my vote for an other quick tip for Nextcloud. Enabling Large File Uploads.. I am still fighting with figuring all the locations. Whether it's php, webserver, webdav..
