Update 2022. Cloudflare is now their own domain name registrar and email routing service on top of being a DNS service provider. I highly recommend getting your domain name through Cloudflare instead. I had Google as my registrar before and switching over to Cloudflare has been much cheaper and seamless. Everything is already integrated into Cloudflare. No need to modify NS records nothing like that. It's a big plus now and this just came out early 2022.

You mentioned reverse proxy for http and https, but will an SRV record work for website traffic on another server?. i.e. server.com goes to the main web server and test.server.com goes to another IP hosting another site entirely.

@IchBinBoss 3 жыл бұрын
thanks:D Actually I think cloudflare is a great thing for home server. Anyhow Iam new in that scene and have some trobules.. I would be very thankful for a complete CloudFlare Home Server solution. That means that no-static-IP will get updated through Cloudflare and not Duckdns. Also all subdomains will be setup in cloudflare. If possible then subdomains should be proxied. And Iam sure there are many things more which can be done with Cloudflare :D Right now my setup works, but my WAN IP is "leaked"

Why would one use cloudflare for this? What does it mean that "cloudflare is protecting my server?"
@iBoolGuy
@iBoolGuy Жыл бұрын
Hello, before I get into this I had a question. I'm coming to this because I wanted to host a domain that I want to use for nextcloud, according to your other video. My question is, I want my Plex server (hosted on the same unraid) to be up 24/7 (it keeps going down and disconnected a lot, if electricity goes down (I'll get a UPS), when the home's IP changes, if the router changes IP's). I'm basically never able to keep Plex up, I still haven't figured that out, so the question, is this domain I'm about to host going to "conflict" somehow with the Plex stuff? Or.. can I use this domain to also benefit Plex? Or are those two completely separate matters? edit: oh my god :O this IS the answer!

@SpaceinvaderOne
@SpaceinvaderOne Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can still use the steps in the video even if you have a dynamic IP address. You'll just need to make sure to update your DNS records with your new IP address whenever it changes. Cloudflare has tools to help with this, so it shouldn't be too difficult. Good luck!

Warning! This only works for dns names you use for web. If you need ssh or imap or wireguard access, CF will not proxy those and you will be locked out. Also, godaddy is evil, they cancel domains they disagree with politically. Do not use godaddy.
