Spacelab / Kraftwerk Cover (with EHX V256 Vocoder)

Hi! So this is a slightly short cover of the song "Spacelab" by Kraftwerk. I used my Electro Harmonix V256 Vocoder going through the Korg Minilogue for the vocals. Everything else I used samples and VSTs. I cut down the outro of the song a bit but overall I tried to cover it as it was originally! I hope you enjoy!

Great version - one of my favourite KW tracks. I wish it was longer! Perhaps a "dreamy" extended version, where the melody is accompanied by orchestron effects...

Fun song!...that looks like the spaceship from the intro of the 1982 movie '"The Thing". Also the chorus reminds me of the VeggieTales theme song part at the end when it says: Lima beans, collard greens, peachy keen Veggietales Cauliflower, sweet and sour, half an hour Veggietales

Not gonna lie, your vocoder during the space lab parts actually sound the best of all versions that I've heard so far. And it even comes with a flying logo like a 70s TV show, too 😂

Thank you!! I would probably change the vocoder tone if I remade this video to be more accurate haha, I think I was trying to show off the tonality of the vocoder originally. But hahaha it was to match their live shows but I like the 70s reference 😅

@@Musik_Arbeiter Honestly, I would leave the vocoder as is. This is probably the best the lyrics have ever sounded, it really adds to it. It's what keeps me looping it back lol Plus, everyone else always forces the old German accent, and it never fits when they do it, so I appreciate your not doing that here 😁

Nice. Question about the pedal tho..Could i record in midi with keyboard, and then add the vocoder mic over the prerecorded notes within my daw of Choice? i use mpc X btw

Hi! The EHX V256 has a midi in, you could have the midi out from your midi controller or synth of choice and have the programmed notes in your DAW playback while you record your vocals. Your Akai MPC X should work perfectly fine with the Vocoder using the midi out on the MPC. You have to set the midi channel to 16 though if you do use it. Cheers!

Hi! I programmed it being just the note and hopping up one octave 1/16 steps. It's I believe D# and C for the main riff 🤙

Which Akai unit are you using here? Is it simply controlling the sounds from your laptop? Is that where the "samples" and "VST" are coming from? If so-why does the video also show the monologue? Is there another "voice" created by it?

Hi! The sample pads were from my Alesis VI49 midi controller below my Minilogue. The keyboards are not producing the sounds, they were from several VSTs I just matched up the video with the cover I made. The vocoder was actually from the EHX Vocoder. Most of the sounds in the video are VSTs.
