Many years ago I meet Tom where I used to work. He was about to checkout. I finally got up the courage and went to him to my surprise he turned around and i told how much i like his band. We breifly talked and shook hands. I couldn't stop smiling the rest of my shift.

Growing up in L.A., I had the opportunity to see Slayer play at local venues, like the L.A. Street Scene, El Sereno, Southgate garage parties, as well. Slayer was (musically) over the top at all levels of their musical progression, beyond that of any other band. I wanted to add, there was a support band, "Tormentor" that would play and party with the Slayer guys, I knew the drummer (Raul) of Tormentor, and nothing more on that. Later, guessing around 1984, I had the privilege of witnessing Exodus, Slayer and Venom on the "Combat Tour", what an incredible experience that was. To formally watch the boys of Slayer kill it on stage, was absolutely mind blowing. Don't get me wrong, the opening act, Exodus also killed it... Venom, not so much (in my opinion). Anyway, I am now 58 years of age, and I still listen and play bass guitar to Slayer, and others. Slayer always takes me back to my youth and I still enjoy their music as if it was the first time I ever heard them play. Incredible band!
@bpb55416 күн бұрын
Thank you for sharing. IMHO there is no better riff masters. Heavy and tight. The guitars alone are killer but throw that bad ass bass in there and the DRUMS... Oh my god the drums!!!! I did 30 years in the Navy so never got to see them. They just recently played up in the Bay area but I couldn't make it. My ultimate dream would be to see anthrax, testement, and Slayer all at the same show.

My favorite metal band by far. Hell, maybe my favorite band and all off the strength of what they did through Seasons in the Abyss. But man, I really do wish they had treated Dave better. It’s always been a thing for me. I can separate the art from the artists, but this is about one of the artists. It just makes it hard for me. How do you look a guy who has sweat blood for your project for years and just treat him like crap and cut him out of all that he has rightfully earned? I’ve never understood it. Tom seems like such an awesome dude, but I can’t wrap my head around that part of the Slayer story.

I never did or maybe I should say that I now have no memory of went bad and I know im blurring the memory with other stuff going on with bands in the 85-88/89 time frame, give or take. I don't even remember if Dave was on drums in Feb '87 Reign in Blood. I usually have a photographic memory, but maybe our "neighbors" in "seating" got us too high. I remember Tom, Jeff, Kerry and the crosses on the stage, but when I try to think about the drums, i just am recalling nothing, like a shadow in my memory. It was a fun night, i think that stage holds the record for the tallest stage, especially for a "smaller" indoor venue. I also remember WASP being booed and pelted with anything not bolted down, but was Dave there? Some said he had left the tour, others said he hadn't left yet or was back but tense on stage. Tom had done a phone in interview the night before and they had to hang up on him after like 20 F bombs and he definitely sounded wasted in 8 ways. Different times back then, and by years end I ended up moving and that solidified a change for me. Slayer was basically unknown where I had moved to. At about 2:40, I can see the top of a T-shirt that I once had. Though I was listening to Metallica by late 84-early 85, and Slayer about a year later but not crazy until late 86, I probably owned more Slayer shirts than the next dozen Metal/hard-core Punk bands. No where near the number of shirts by a band far different, who became my all time favorites, and their music was influenced by the Stones and Beatles too as well as knowing those groups and indirectly probably loaded them both up with a life supply of LSD. But, the shocker was when I read that the guy whose name was almost synonymous with that band, he actually thought highly of Reign in Blood. They would never play anything "metal", though most metal heads either liked their music or at least the atmosphere outside and inside those shows. Just never can tell what surprises and things lay in store, I guess.

I met slayer at Tower records in Tacoma, WA. They were about to tour for Seasons in the abyss. My girlfriend was with me and she had a huge crush on Tom. Jeff, Dave, and Kerry looked tired and didn't say much. Tom had a big smile on his face. I told him he made my girl's clitoris pulsate. (she was dying of embarrassment) Tom laughed and said "I didn't know our music did that, but I knew I could". Then he goes "you're a funny guy Jesse". When I got home and checked my signed cassette tape, I was the only one out of 4 of us, to have a pentagram scribbled on Tom's forehead in the pic of the band. 😂 I'll never forget that. If you smell something, it's Tom cuz he's the shit!

That was my experience meeting Kerry King and 100% true.

Love Slayer. Since like 83. I was there in the thrash scene in SF. Still love Slayer but when you say you’re done, you should stay gone. Seriously. You’ve cemented a legacy that is celebrated across the world. Losing your integrity is not cool. I think less of them now for coming back. I don’t care why, just that you lied.
