It's pretty ironic that Patrick was casted as Frosty the Snowman since three years later his voice actor actually voiced Frosty in "The Legend of Frosty the Snowman" using the same voice and giving the character the same personality. With that Frosty the Snowman movie being many years after the original special, I guess that explains a lot.

This is painfully nostalgic for me. I have so many memories of watching these Christmas specials in the days leading up to Christmas day when I was much younger. I looked forward to it every single year. Now I'm a freshman in college reliving old memories via KZbin. It's insane how you can blink and suddenly 10+ years have passed...

Probably a good thing Fairly Odd Parents kept going too and most people agree that got worse even later seasons of Rugrats are considered bad or not as good by some people...speaking of Rugrats it has a reboot that's currently still airing new episodes so there's that. Anyway those shows ending isn't a bad thing most of them didn't overstay their welcome and suffer a slow decline in quality like Spongebob did. I think the real problem is that Nickelodeon doesn't have many good modern shows that can be fondly remembered other than maybe Loud House and most other shows get canceled if their not immediately a big hit like Spongebob.

Here's my guesses on who wrote those shorts. 1. Plankton's Holiday Hits - Written by Mr. Lawrence 2. NIckmas Party - Written by Stephen Hillenburg and Derek Drymon 3. The 12 Days of Nickmas - Written by Paul Tibbitt, Walt Dohrn, and Mr. Lawrence 4. Chuckie Finster's Christmas/Hanukah/Kwanzaa - Written by David Rosenberg 5. How the You-Know Who Stole the You Know What - Written by Merriwether Williams 6. The Nutcracker Suite - Written by Butch Hartman and 7. Patrick the Snowman - Written by John A. awesome! wonder if there's a way to find out for sure.
@Spaceprince729 жыл бұрын
+Veston Bruno Good guess and very flattering but it was myself and my writing partner Samantha who wrote all of these. We locked ourselves in my office for a month and watched every Christmas special we loved from our youth and found a way to apply our own nostalgia to the current shows, which have now become, your nostalgia. We originally wrote all the shorts as a continuing series. You could watch them all individually but if you watched them all back to back it became an epic journey that SpongeBob the Elf takes in order to become a Fry cook. He encounters all the other Nicktoon characters in different ways. Patrick was a snow monsters, Jimmy Neutron a Toy Maker, etc...etc... It would have been truly epic. But I loved these too.

Hey! that new ninja turtles is awesome!!!! and that's coming from a guy who grew up on the 80's and 2003 show. Heck, I even watched Next Mutation. But I do agree, most of the shows on nick suck these days. In fact, when ever a new show airs, it seems to last for a few weeks, disappears, then a new show pops up. The only constants are Spongebob, Farily Odd Parents (for some reason) and.......that's it. Nick should have a block like CN's Cartoon Planet were they show old shows and have it at a reasonable hour.

DX In the words of Sheen from Jimmy Neutron, "Why must the good die young??"
@Spaceprince729 жыл бұрын
+CatMaster90001 My writing partner and I loved all these cartoons and it was our job to know about things like Chocolate from Irk. We had relationships with all of the creators and had to represent all their shows accurately. We were lucky that we were able to pull off these shorts where they all appeared together.

Spaceprince72 Wait a minute... You actually used to be a *writer* for Nickelodeon?? Back in its glory days?? 8-3 ... My friend, I have SO much to discuss with you. ^3^ For starters, I'd like to know if you knew anything personally about the cancellation of Invader Zim and why it happened, if your department extended that far, that is... pretty please. :3
@Spaceprince729 жыл бұрын
The show did 'alright' in the ratings, enough to be considered a cult hit, but it featured a lot of content that made the network nervous. e.g. the gouging of childrens' eyes. But as I remember it the real nail in the coffin was that Jhonen had little interest in monetizing the property beyond T-Shirts. Creators had a lot of control at that time and if a show can't generate product or enough ratings to make the air time a valuable media buy then it has to go. Shows today have even less time to get their footing for the same reasons.
@CatMaster900019 жыл бұрын
Spaceprince72 Oh yeah, the show did indeed push the boundaries of what a kids' cartoon could and couldn't get away with... X3 A fuckton more than Ren and Stimpy did, in all honesty. The show even got away with freaking *murder* at one point, and in a subtle enough manner (in that they didn't show the actual death, but rather a visual implication), even though the death was immediately reversed just a few seconds later. I was actually at InvaderCon II: DoomCon in Torrence, CA, and at one of the writers' panels with Eric Trueheart, he revealed that the network cautiously allowed Jhonen and the show's crew a certain degree of artistic liberty regarding the darkness and other such content, but their main nagging concern was, as Eric satirically imitated them saying, "Just don't kill anyone!!!" I can both see and admire the dual perspectives of Jhonen's reluctance with Zim merchandise. On one hand, I think it's awesome that he had the exact same respect for his brainchild that Bill Watterson had for Calvin and Hobbes, but on the other hand, in retrospect, he really should have just sucked it up and allowed Nick to sell Zim's face as much as they wanted, which thankfully wasn't as much then as they do now with their licensed shows. Hell, they were relatively moderate with their Spongebob merch in the early 2000's compared to the buttloads of it they sell now. Spongebob is one of their, if not their singlemost, greatest material commodities, regardless of the dismal zombie-state the show has gotten itself into as of late... but I digress. Point is, if Jhonen really wanted the show to stay on the air, he should have just allowed Nick to market Zim's image at that time. I mean, hey, that would have been the ideal way to provide funding for the show's expensive production, would it not? Not to mention the tragic irony of Nick profiting from all that Gir merch at Hot Topic a few years back, when the Invader Zim cult following was in its prime, fueled by the passion of dedicated fan groups such as Operation Head Pigeons and Soapy Waffles. Just think of how hot that merch could have been during Zim's actual time on the air! All in all, I'm not a huge fan of capitalism, but sometimes you just gotta suck it up and cope with the circumstances if you wanna move forward. I really, REALLY hate to admit it, despite all my admiration for the dark genius, but Jhonen kinda screwed his own show over... at least, from what I'm getting from you. Now then, I just came up with another couple of questions... 1. Did you actually know any of the Invader Zim crew personally, or at least get to meet them at any point? 2. How long did you stay at Nickelodeon, and what have you been doing since then? On the matter of that second question, I just have to give you muchos kudos for remaining brilliantly anonymous on the internet thus far, managing to keep the fact that you used to be an actual writer for early 2000's Nickelodeon, the shining staple of my childhood, and that of many others, relatively hushed. Would Nick nowadays have any problem with you telling about your experiences with them to strangers online?

My god I miss old nickelodeon/nicktoons. I was only 1 year old when these came out, but I wish I had been old enough to see and remember them. Has anyone else ever felt nostalgic about something they've never even experienced?
