just food for though, wouldn't it have been less oval after machining if not retained by the 2 bolts ? Or do you use the bolts because you don't want the piece to get out of the jaws? I'm asking this because when I was machining molds, we would unclamp after roughing and clamp less hard without down forces so the mold sits "naturally" after taking out that much material from the big piece we beginned with. I know it was just a couple how Thousandth, but i just wanted your input on this and share my experience. Thank you for the video :)
@ChrisMaj

The part was 20" tall and I was holding it only by 3/4" so yeah I used the clamps to hold it in place. The jaws were barley touching.

I was worried that it would break the inserts, but it went pretty well.
@currentbatches6205
@currentbatches6205 3 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisMaj That insert didn't have the same yellow (TiN?) color as most of the others and I wondered if it were some sort of 'resilient' carbide. Neither you (pro), nor me (strictly amateur) can avoid *all* interrupted cuts. I can usually scrounge some HHS bit from the days of my old lantern-tool-post lathe and 'shim' it into the QC tool holder, but I'll bet you simply don't have any HHS bits around. BTW, that old lathe wasn't rigid enough to use carbide; most all cuts were 'interrupted' on that thing.
@ChrisMaj
@ChrisMaj 3 жыл бұрын
@@currentbatches6205 It is about selecting the optimal insert for the application and applying it properly in an efficient manner. If the insert has an advanced coating technology specific to the application and it is applied effectively, maximum productivity is ensured.The larger the cutting edge angle the better.
@currentbatches6205
@currentbatches6205 3 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisMaj "...The larger the cutting edge angle the better..." IOWs, you prefer the cutting edge of the bit to address the hole as far as you (practicably) can from parallel to the C/L of the hole? To keep the entire cutting edge from hitting the cutting surface? If I got that right, dunno what your native language is but please convert "thank you" to that.
