SpaceX launches 'heaviest' Starlink batch yet, nails landing

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched its heaviest payload to date, carrying 56 Starlink satellites that weighed in at a combined 17.4 metric tonnes (19.4 tons). They keep that tone no matter if it is a perfect launch or if it becomes a tragedy, like Challenger and Columbia. Go back and listen to the playback of those. If you were able to see it live and hear/feel the sonic boom building, you would realize it is in no way routine. We stand on the Indian River shore, watching, waiting to see the telltale glow on the other side, Then, we get to watch the rocket go up! I hope one day you can come to the Space Coast and see one live. You will never forget it. Sorry to be so wordy, I love living here and wanted to share.

If all 6000 satellites rotating the earth (mostly junk satellites, btw) had a footprint the size of the ISS (126,736 ft², arguably the largest satellite ever created), there would be 760,416,000 ft² of satellites rotating the earth, blocking our view of the stars. This is around 27 mi² of footprint surrounding our earth of satellites - mind you, if they were all the size of the ISS. New York, a tiny dot from space, is 472 mi². So, ALL the satellites IF they were the size of the ISS would be 1/17th the size of the city of New York...surrounding the GLOBE....the WHOLE EARTH. I'm afraid we are incapable of blocking our view of the stars my friend.

I'm not sure what a brain with a question mark means...but the math does not lie. The number of satellites we have orbiting the earth is so miniscule in size compared to the size of even a small town that it has barely negligible effects on the view of our stars.

This NEVER gets old. I watched Saturn 5 boosters roar into the space, only to be discarded at the bottom of the sea - all those resources expended in one magnificent firework. And here we are today. Look at us Cave Men GO…..🥲
