SpaceX's CRAZY Manufacturing Inside New Starfactory Just HUMILIATED Whole Industry!
Behold the future of Starship! Months have passed since Starfactory began its construction on the former system area, and until now, our glimpses have been limited to its exterior.
However, recently, Elon Musk personally escorted us inside, unveiling mind-blowing revelations about the new system's capabilities.
Brace yourself for what lies ahead-it will surpass all expectations.
Join us now on today’s episode of Great SpaceX as we explore Starfactory, the world's most awe-inspiring rocket production facility.
SpaceX's CRAZY Manufacturing Inside New Starfactory Just HUMILIATED Whole Industry!
Rocket production is notoriously complex, with standards far beyond those of other vehicles or products. This complexity has made the idea of mass-producing rockets seem unthinkable. Yet, SpaceX is ready to break new ground. Inspired by Tesla's Gigafactory model, Starfactory is set to revolutionize rocket production.
On June 22, Tim Dodd, the mind behind the KZbin channel Everyday Astronaut, hosted an exclusive tour and interview with Elon Musk at Starbase. Thanks to Tim and his team, we got our first look inside Starfactory, revealing its incredible innovations. A huge thanks to them for this amazing video, which offers fresh insights into Starfactory and other Starship systems. Be sure to follow Tim's team on X and subscribe to their KZbin channel for more fantastic content in the future!
SpaceX's CRAZY Manufacturing Inside New Starfactory Just HUMILIATED Whole Industry!
Get ready to witness where the mighty Starships of the future will be born! The Starfactory is a vast, immaculate space, embodying modernity and simplicity in true SpaceX fashion. Although not everything is fully arranged yet, the overall ambiance is striking. With its flat roof design, the structure feels even taller than the Production Tent's 18 meters, enhancing its grandeur compared to Elon Musk's previous tour inside the Production Tent.

It not just what he’s doing now that humiliates the industry. It’s what he’s done from the start. Every step in spacex has been a slap in the face of the space industry. The only thing more humiliating he could do is publicly announce a massless propulsion system. A drive that only requires electricity. Something like a ufo. Announcing a field drive of some sort would just kick them all in the balls, and be pricelessly hilarious.

Just look at the track record. Look at the speed of learning. A lot of people here have no idea of the complexity of this process. Do you see a spaceship that can't get off of the dock at the ISS? It's not a SpaceX product. How many Falcon 9's go up each year?? How many Falcon Heavy's?? Sir Musk ....... thank you for your organization and all of the positive outcomes we have witnessed.

What is key here about SpaceX is not being able to build 1000 Starships a year. Instead, what is truly key here is that Musk has created a company which rapidly and continuously adapts to manufacturing new product designs which are based on continually evolving technology. Yes, Starships can deliver supplies to Mars. Yet at the same time, SpaceX was developed with an internal mentality which allows them to rapidly embrace and adopt new technologies and solutions. This is in stark contrast to the unbelievably methodical and "carved in stone" approach which is used by Blue Origin. Blue Origin's approach fundamentally limits them to their initial design criteria which now are years out of date in terms of what can actually be accomplished with a newer clean sheet design approach. My point is that SpaceX will be the first company which will actually build nuclear powered interplanetary spacecraft for ferrying humans to Mars and to other solar system destinations. Maybe I am right and maybe I am wrong. Yet this is generally how I see it from a layman's perspective.

Outside of the unusually clean interior, this factory reminds me much of the factory I worked in at the beginning of my working life... building nuclear reactor and boiler vessels for US and foreign power plants. Didn't catch if it was 3 ships or boosters per day. Let's figure 3 each per day. 35 plus 9 equals 44 Raptors per ship. That's 132 Raptors per day, each requiring live firing and mounting. All tanks have to be pressure tested, all engines have to be mounted, then full wet dress rehearsing and test firing, times 3, all in one day on average. Just driving stuff around takes hours. Getting fuel deliveries for all the tests, fueling time, etc. I guess if you triplicate Star Base in Florida and maybe somewhere else near the launching facilties. If things are organized enough, the bulk of the manufacturing could be done at one location. Seems that full power testing of 132 Raptors per day might be challenging. If you create a quick disconnect mount for the Raptors, that could save a lot of time. If you build a beefy enough testing jig that could test dozens or more engine at once, automated and shielded to prevent sympathetic RUDs, and find someplace that won't through an environmental fit to locate it all. Lot of fuel each day. One of the biggest issues might be skilled labor. Hopefully automation will take care of that. Musk and his team are smart cookies. I assume they've already worked all this out. If I can work it out with my little 3 lb brain in 10-15 min, I'm sure the SpaceX 10 pounders got this all figured out...

Yeah i think it will be fine. It is okay if an individual starship or raptor engine takes a week to build as long as they are starting the process for however many they need each day. But yeah they will need more testing infrastructure for that cadence and they probably have most of it planned out at this point

Absolutely amazing. If only nations would stop f-ing around and come together as people of Earth. That would be a sight to see. Most of the people have no idea how grateful we can be for Elon Musk and his enthusiasm. And yet there are people, selfish and irresponsible people who think he is crazy and stupid. Damn, that makes me so angry with people who have absolutely no gratitude towards people who genuinely care for our existence. I'm not whining, don't get me wrong, but my family that created me, took my time here on Earth, just to be their puppet and black sheep of the family. All those wasted years, which I could use much more effectively. Why are people like that? Why going against your own kind? If you create life, make sure you put all possible effort into your children so that they can create life and put effort into their children. Why ruining peoples lives? That is a complete mistery to me, which I cannot except.

They got solar panels from YOUR company only to find the majority of the credit wasn't going to them. It went to YOUR company! When my parents found out and confronted YOUR company, they were told, "You never told us not to." Now, they can't even remove YOUR companies panels. Even though they haven't been used in over 7 years. You need to fix this and until you do, I'm going to continue to call you out. The ball's in your court, Mr. Used-to-be-the-richest-man. Starship and booster can be reusable with cycling time probably one week. There is no way to fly the same rocket the same day many times. Elon needs a huge army of workers to make a lot of boosters and starships. So the each ship after landing will go for maintenance ( change tiles , engines, ..etc,) then it will come back to launch table in one week already tested and ready for a new launch.

Remains to be seen when V3 (with all the Really juicy modes) starts, but I imagine they will catch V2 successfully at Least once or twice before stretching the rocket). That said... expecting V3 (the one that will be big enough to be a tanker as well as a dispenser) maybe Q1 to Q2 of next year. About 15 months before the 09/26 launch date of the Manned Lunar Mission. Expect at least One dry run before that, so time's tight.... Hence V3 before end of 2025Q2.

methane itself is a very potent greenhouse gas, it traps 32x more heat than co2. when burned it produces co2 and h2o. burning methane is actually the environmentally friendly thing to do
@Zreknarf
@Zreknarf Ай бұрын
furthermore spacex intends to use carbon capture tech to pull co2 out of the atmosphere, use tesla solar panels for electrolysis to obtain hydrogen, and create methane from that. so the rocket is actually net zero emissions. that is mostly for fuel production on Mars, though, because methane is incredibly abundant on Earth. the methane they need for a starship launch is probably about what the beef farm for a single mcdonalds branch produces in a week.

pretty exciting. There's some exciting nanotech developments that can lead to Drexlerian Nanotech, and if we can make Drexlerian Nanotechnology, then we can make rockets to atomic specification. So, i like to share these. It's been awhile since I've seen any exciting nanotech news. Most of my sources have gone quiet!
@oker59
@oker59 Ай бұрын
There was some Protein folding news yesterday. Yet another protein folding software. This one came from a group that was disbanded for some mysterious reason by Meta A.I. They went ahead and formed their own protein folding company, and released their first products, or announced it yesterday. They're called EvolutionaryScale, and they first protein folding software is called ESM3. Presumably is can simulate 500 million years of evolution in a second. I don't know how true that is; but, that's what they're saying. If they can't create protein machines able to do single atom chemistry and make Drexlerian Nanotech from that, then I don't know what will! It'll prove interesting to see how much news and how fast comes out of this group in the coming weeks, maybe a month.
@oker59
@oker59 Ай бұрын
There's also an electron microscope news item that I'm excited about. A lot of nanotechnologists wrote off electron microscopes a long time ago. But, I like the idea. And, I've seen some good stuff(even 3d printing, but not to atomic specifications. They've done 3d printing with electron microscopes back in the 1990s. But, they can't get past the 30 nm barrier). A group announced yesterday combining terrahertz light with electron microscopes to image and even control atoms and electrons. They could make two and three electron hands. It's like a strobelight. They were able to make femtosecond strobelight electron microscopes that can image and even control atoms and electrons. They can control chemical reactions. They can image chemical reactions. I would think they can do Drexlerian Nanotechnology with this; but, maybe I don't know what more problems they need to do.
@oker59
@oker59 Ай бұрын
ope dope ee dope - the use of proteins to do things to atomic specifications has been accomplished. Although this was not used to make Drexlerian nanomachines, they made semi-conductor chips. "Controlling semiconductor growth with structured de novo protein interface" "Protein design now enables the precise arrangement of atoms on the length scales (nanometers) of inorganic crystal nuclei, opening up the possibility of templating semiconductor growth." This was from the Baker team as well. I would note that this is proteins making synthetic chemistry structures - things that can exist outside of water environments. So, they could maybe make Drexlerian nanomachines in solution, that can work in a vacuum. It'll prove interesting how fast they progress on this.

Unless we find a way to make money on Moon and Mars, of which there's no indication yet, this isn't going anywhere.

if successful, spacex will pretty much own the whole segment for some time. there will be opportunities not readily apparent atm

@@outtakontroll3334 "there WILL be" - you must be american? Stereotypes aside, I don't really trust Elon. You don't get as rich being a nice guy. He may be playing a completely different game. A few. Or just be plain crazy on a marginal level. And it is not strictly an engineering problem. Economics and behaviorism will become part of this bet. I don't see significant purpose or reliable profit in this enterprise yet. Prices change, people not. "Terraform" Earth first. Protect. It's a paradise not yet lost.

@@vensroofcat6415Well starlink is there only for the money. So that problem is mostly solved. Also going to the moon there get money from NASA. So doesn't really matter if mars or moon is profitable in the shorter term. In the long run it will be profitable.
