SPAGHETTI SHERMAN - M4 Hybrid in War Thunder - OddBawZ

The Frankenstein Spaghetti M4 Hybrid Sherman is a Rank 2 Italian Premium. Being Rank 2, it makes it a poor choice for grinding.
However, the M4 Hybrid is still a Sherman and it can do everything a Sherman can do just not as well.
It's basically the worst of all the M4 tanks welded together in some horrific abomination. Does it still slap the allies around? Yes, of course it does. It's an M4 Sherman!

The Sherman Hybrid came about because the front plate of the Sherman was the most complex part of the hull, so when the M4A1 cast hulled Sherman went out of production, the foundry was turned over to making one-piece cast front plates, so as to reduce the time it took to make the most complex part. This speeded up production massively, and, as a consequence, made the tank cheaper.

This - the composites were quicker and cheaper to make. Welding armor plate was expensive back then, and the early welded hulls had a LOT of welding, with the extensions for the drivers' hatches, etc. At the time, there was an ongoing effort to increase the size of the driver's and assistant driver's hatches, due to the hazard involved in bailing out of a disable tank. Chrysler submitted the first design for a redesigned front cast hull, and the composites were the first of the M4 line to have the larger hatches. They didn't stay in production long, however, because at the same time Fisher submitted a proposal for a redesigned welded hull to accommodate the larger hatches, and the 2 1/2 plate in their proposal provided better protection than the cast hull as well as greatly reducing the amount of welding required for the welded hull. Separately, I believe that the weak spot in the turret mentioned in the video is an error. The composites were produced from August 1943 to early 1944. Applique armor was added to the turret to correct for the weak spot beginning in March of 1943, so any turrets used on composites should either have applique or be the later turrets with it included in the original casting. The original prototype, however, used a turret (probably a "spare" one that happened to be handy at the time) without applique armor or many of the modifications which were standardized by the time the production tanks were delivered.

Gaijin seem to want to make the Sherman worse than the T34 in every way for what I guess is their national pride. That weak spot on the turret cheek was only on early Shermans and had gone by the time they made the hybrid. The outer mantlet should be 52mm thick. The fixed inner gun shield should be 89mm thick The cast glacis should be 64mm thick, not 52, and the vertical corners should be the same thickness as the main glacis. It's almost as though they can't cope with a western country producing something better than the Soviets.

One time when I was playing the M4A1 (76) me and a Panther D got into a long range shooting match and idk how, but he kept bouncing and I got him. He was pretty salty and I don't blame him, but I can confirm this Sherman's armor is really trolly.

Love the long vid! Suggestion: please play the 7.3 AMX-50 and AMX50 Foch. T I just unlocked the AMX50 and at 7.3 its an absolute monster. 273mm pen with a 4 second autoloader at 7.3 is insane. Even I do great with it (48kills in 14 games) so I'd love to see you wreck face with the thing!

Hi Mr. OddBawZ! Have you considered turning on SSAA X4 in graphics option? You have excessively high frame rate, why not get a sharper image instead?

There is not much benefit to doing that. Also, it causes severe input delay with mouse movement which makes things really difficult. Sharpness is also super bad for rendering video. It makes the image all fuzzy.

The M4A1 is at 3.3, whereas this thing is at 3.7 lol. Why? Same story with the M4A4 at 3.7. It has terrible turret armour and no .50 cal. Also, the Sherman II. It has the same garbage armour as an M4A1, so why is it at 3.7? APCR? That's the worst round in the game!
