Just like the bear climbed over the mountain, I pull apart the car some more to see what I can see.

You can also take a look at 1st gen Mitsubishi Eclipse shifter mechanism, or 3000GT, as they use the same style cable shifting. Oh duh, I realize the MR2 shifter already has the cables coming out the correct way.. Actually, I converted my Mitsu Diamante(auto) to 6spd manual trans out of a Hyundai Tiburon GT!..also another cable shifter.. (but you wouldn't want that one) Keep on your Lancia project good stuff, I'm trying to get to a few Scorpions soon myself!

Yes, that rip cord in the butyl was supposed to make removing the window easier. 40 years probably rendered it useless. I didn't even realize mine had it until I was 3/4 of the way through removing the butyl.

I didn't think it would be used on the rear screen, but on the X1/9 the wire is present in the front screen adhesive. You remove the inner trim, fish out the ends of the wire and put 12 V on them. The wire heats up and softens the adhesive to ease removal of the screen.

26:55: There was supposed to be a nut holding that top piece on. It's a puzzle. And yes, that side piece is supposed to come off first. Then the top piece comes off after removing the nut (that yours didn't have) on the underside of it.

copper wire in the window seal (butyl)... could it be the same thing in an X1/9 where you put low voltage, low amperage DC and it heats it up (see a link on XWebForums xwebforums.com/forum/index.php?threads/quick-windshield-question.12385/#post-94593). Maybe that's what you saw? Seems crazy it'd be somewhere other than the windshield tho. Thanks for the vid!

Interesting discussion! Perhaps I should have consulted the web before trying to fight the stuff out. The butyl in general is so aged, hard, and dry that the glass practically falls out but the delicate plastic window trim is stuck fast. Maybe I'll try to give it a shot of juice on the driver's side if I can find a correct power source to use. Thanks!
