Have you ever thought about creating a real museum with all the flags and other stuff from other countries? There are enough museums without any paintings or historical stuff. For example, in a city in which i live now (Irkutsk) there is a junkyard museum, which consists of all sorts of interesting stuff thrown out by people / built from junk. And it has become quite popular around here. A museum with flags and other small items from all over the world might also became an interesting place to visit.

Not only can you make the Polish flag out of the Hawaiian flag, you can also make the the flags of Republika Srpska, Russian flag upside down, Indonesia upside down, Serbia & Montenegro, France sideways, and the Netherlands flag upside down. And that's on top of the fact the Union Jack is a combination of flags And agreed, Cuba has a pretty cool flag, though I'm pretty biased 😅 And it was nice of the Puerto Rican independence movement of the 1890s to adopt a flag in a similar style.

Acadia lives on! At the start of this video, I was certain that you wouldn’t have received an Acadian flag and was thinking about sending one. Glad to see someone beat me to it. For those who don’t know, Acadia was a separate colony of New France comprised of what is now New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, PEI, the Gaspé region of Québec, and most of the US state of Maine. It was the home of the Mi’kmaq, who united with the French settlers who wished to live free among them away from European nobility. For this they were abandoned by France and given to Britain who tried to ethnically cleanse the region of both, but later allowed them citizenship. Acadia then became home to the Scottish that were resettled by England to hold the territory, as well as the Irish fleeing famine and poverty. There were also a lot of African slaves fleeing the US and settling down along the Acadian coasts. Acadia was renamed to “Nova Scotia”, and then broken into several smaller states/provinces for easier rule, however all these groups started living and working together as one people despite their different origins and languages, which gave a British lord (Sir John A Macdonald)the original inspiration for the idea of Canada by reuniting the territory into a new nation. After a drunken knight in Charlottetown with some of the other lords, their ambitions grew to unite all of British North America into one country by building a railroad to the Pacific Ocean. Thus Canada was born, and Macdonald became our first prime minister. So as a proud Acadian of French, Mi’kmaq, and Scottish ancestry, I like to think of Acadia as the original Canada!
@bfmtrooper54543 жыл бұрын
Very interesting, I've heard it before and done some research into it (due to one angry acadian girl who accused the British of all put genocide and murder of the acadian people) and while that was simple deportation (not good but not genocide) I did get to learn about the history an it's interesting for sure. While I don't like the flag as a brit, I can appreciate the history lol.

Acadia also had the oldest town ever built in Canada
@Viennery3 жыл бұрын
@@armahpruski5877 yep, Port Royal was established in 1605 and was the Capital of Acadia until it was captured by the English. The Acadians surrendered through negotiations that would have allowed them to keep their property and religion under the new rule, however upon surrender English soldiers looted the town anyway and set fire to the monastery. The name was then changed to Annapolis Royal, which still exists in Nova Scotia.

Fun fact: it's the english that copied the genoese flag, at the start only the merchants did it, in order to get the same prestige in ports around the mediterrenean, and for this they paid a "rent" to the republic, it was later adopted tho. This is what I remember from what I read on wikipedia a year ago, so you are invited to check if it is correct, I am too lazy to do that.

Here’s a few things about the flags (and a couple interesting things) from a Newfoundlander: Newfoundland is not said as if you were saying “New found land”. We stress the first and last syllables and all but drop the last one: think how Milan is pronounced. Also, the tricolour NL flag (usually called the Republican flag) is controversial in some circles here but usually accepted: some people see it as another symbol of national pride, others as a symbol of separatism. Personally, I’m fine with it! As well, Labrador (the mainland part) has its own flag, within our province! They’re often flown side-by-side in Labrador if I remember correctly. Same thing (if memory serves) with our Inuit community. Finally, one more fun fact. Newfoundland is the only province of Canada to have a provincial anthem (the Ode to Newfoundland: highly recommend listening to it, there’s a beautiful version here on YT.) This is because we were an independent country until 1949, when we went bankrupt and voted to join Canada and have our debt forgiven by Britain (we were both Dominions at the time).
