This is a gentleman who has my total respect not just as an engineer but also as a human being. No glitz no glamour, he doesn't even need to speak to be understood by many across the world.

I really appreciate the beauty of the drawings of the different setups for each function . A good book like that must be indispensable .

We are happy to both be here and we are enjoying watching you making parts. Like that little stout wrench 14:43 in it just fits the efforts of the lathe. I was wondering about those thread rings my partner who sent me here knows about them (a screw follower) I had never seen that way of threading in my life, We love KZbin and the creators like you that share your equipment and most of all, your skills and knowledge. Really like that milling head attachment 22:30 in comes in handy. Thank you for the great video.

This is one of the coolest machine tool videos I have seen (and I've seen a lot of them)! I'm not familiar with watchmaking lathes so was wondering how you were going to cut the threads without a lead-screw carriage drive like conventional lathes use. Then, when I saw how the attachments worked, I was actually giggling out loud because it was so ingenious and straightforward! And that was just the start! The indexing attachment is incredible and again, so very satisfying to see how it all works. : ) I am not a machinist or watchmaker but I just love seeing precision metal working and the tools you guys use to create such intricate and beautiful machines. Thank you so much for sharing this Steffan! 💖

Another brilliant video and history lesson on a rare Lorch attachment (indexer head). We haven't had a video from you in a while.. Bur it's always worth the wait. Thank you Steffen for the work you do and the time you spend showing it here on You tube.

Fantastic demonstration Steffen, thank you. It's a very clever method of indexing. And thank you for showing using two lathes, end to end, to machine an object with a large swing.

Yes...Large swing. Using two beds is possible if you have the special Lorch cross slide, which is clamped not through the bed but with a crank at its end. Regards Steffen

Thank you for another interesting video, such beautiful Lorch Zubehöre haben Sie! I seem to learn some new technique for work holding, or something, every video from you...I liked the ptrick' of using two lathes, 'back to back', to get a large Spindlehöhe! I was surprised that you did not use the LLPV for threading, but that is an interesting mechanism, which I have seen that Emco copied...I wish that I could find the Gewindepatronen, since I am not accomplished-enough to make them, myself, for my LLPV., leider...thank youm Maestro!

@@spahlow Hi Stefan; my LLPV has the 'short' bed clamp on the headstock, but the cross slide is the 'bolted' kind...still, I guess that some work would make it possible to clamp like the headstock, maybe using the tailstock clamping mechanism... a challenge, but thanks for letting me know about the issue! Ein gutes neues Jahr!

GREAT WORK !!! 1 GRAD. ON SCALE = 1/10,000 TURN + VERNIER = 1/100,000 TURN ?
@spahlow5 жыл бұрын
Yes, but you have only 500 graduation marks and not 1000
@1jtolvey5 жыл бұрын
1 GRADUATION = 1/10,000 OF A TURN ON OBJECT BEING TURNED , WORK ?
@spahlow5 жыл бұрын
See, I explain it again. The disc is (has to be!) to be divided in graduation marks. If your devision result for the cogs is three digits after the comma, the disc has to show 1000 graduation marks. But 1000 marks on this disc diameter here is impossible. (The width of the mark would be like the engraving line size) So the precision engineer of the gadget decided to design only 500 marks. Now one mark on the disc edge matches to two 1000-graduation marks. That requires to take half of the digits result after the comma, because one mark at the disc division by 500 is the same like two at a disc division of 1000.
@zbradbell5 жыл бұрын
200 * 500 = 100,000. With vernier, 1/1,000,000 turn

5:27 looks like drive system needs some adaptation to modern technologies. Did you look on adding some switchable time belt pulley to classical pulley group? With such a like time pulley, stepper motor (NEMA57 alike) and simple step/dir electronic driver you'll have more control on low-speed operations like threading in this video.

Dmitry Ponyatov no manual skills i take it.. pitty i have 45 years maching new cnc charactors have no concept of tool clearances material machinabialties unless its written down or theoratical..unless they can push a button or enter proper go code
@makenchips3 жыл бұрын
@@miguelcastaneda7236 Very good statement about old ways vs new machining ways. Old way if something not right while maching you knew what to address an move on. New way no code go to internet see if you can find some on with same issue! Then see if they found a code to the problem! When all the had to do is slow something down! Also new machine make a lot of noise over ridinging the machining feedback, but who needs that, they have a code for that and a button! Experience is being lost by the hour!

Get a belt sander!!!!
@nigelnightmare4160 Жыл бұрын
Why? He seems quite capable with the equipment he has, which is very adaptable. And a belt sander really has only one use and takes up a lot of space. If I was just setting up a new workshop then I would probably get a belt sander as they're 'readily available', unlike the vintage lathe's and ancillaries that he uses.
