Iberian Jews were expelled in 1492, and Sephardim offered Spanish citizenship in 2015. How did Spain see the Jews during this 500 year period? What caused the shift from anti-Semitic Catholic zeal to putting out the welcome mat? Against the backdrop of Spanish history, David Mendoza discusses the evolution of Spain's attitude towards Jews.

My family ancestors , both paternal and maternal were Sephardi immigrants who moved from Spain to Amsterdam, joined the VOC ( Dutch East Indian Shipping Company) sailed to Ceylon ( Sri Lanka) in the year 1756, married from Jewish families and settled in Sri Lanka. First they were forced to become Catholics, then with reformation, they became Dutch Presbyterians.

My family came from pyreneese area val de arran to cuba A huge unkowm number of folks that came as converts are definitely jewish in dna. But its been hidden and forfotten i mean do we know our family from say 200 yrs ago? No way esp after conversion and record keeping and erasing anything that wpuld put you in danger. Imagine what it was like what would you do to survive. Its sad but makes you appreciate the jewish struggle. Esp to get decent work.
