Possibly everyone discovered it on their own. What is clear is that when the British arrived in Australia (with the plans and sea charts from the Spanish archives looted in Manila during the Seven-Years War) the Spanish, Portuguese, and Dutch had already passed through there.

Japan only had civil wars lol. The only foreign wars that they had were against the Chinese in 750 which they were humiliated, the mongols, First sino Japanese war (19th century), Russo Japanese war, ww1, second sino Japanese war and ww2.
