Fun fact: Amancio Ortega, Spain's wealthiest person, was born in Busdongo, the second to last village before reaching Pajares pass. His father was an officer in the train station at the time.

Beautiful video!!, I'm from León, near to that area , and I just have to say that the whole ascent is in my place, at the point where you begin to descend, right where the famous parador is, Asturias begins, it would be good to mention it, because you just talk about Cantabrian montains and Asturias, It seems to me to be more accurate to mention León, since all the mountain ascent that you show in this video is in León. Good job, thanks for this video!!!

pajares pass is especially known with its extreme railway that passes from la robla to pola de lena with some 66 tunnels and several very low radius curves , the pajares station is the highest station in spain

Very nice! I like a lot to drive on the passes in Northern Spain, as the landscape is totally different on each of the mountain sides. Also the Cantabrian Mountains act as a very powerful weather barrier and you have most of the time also different weather as you cross the mountains.

As a roadtripper, you may want to choose from time to time to drive on secondary roads, you can see much more from the landscape around by driving on such pass roads than on a motorway.

This must be one of the few cases in Spain in which choosing the tolled alternative really makes up for the money if you're a lorry driver. A 17% steep grade is insanely dangerous.

AP-66 is also fairly steep on the Asturias side. I saw several large trucks going over N-630 despite the 13 - 17% grades.

Awww.. you didn't go down the other side... lol!! Don't blame you in the least. 17% grade is brutal on brakes, brains and brawn. The brakes are easy to explain, the rest not so easy. Brains because you have to be aware of everything. Car, brakes heating, corners, other drivers, etc. Brawn, because you may have to manhandle your car if something breaks on those steep inclines. My hat is off to you for not making us sit her in our armchairs and freak out over it (although it would have been scary/awesome). Have a wonderful Sunday.
@danachappell38613 жыл бұрын
@@Travisbickle75 You are absolutely right. Where I live, we don't have such steep grades on our roads. Yes, we have hills, but almost every road is passable and relatively shallow. I can only think of one road that is really steep, and it's only a couple of hundred of meters long, and dirt/rocks. You need a 4x4 to get up it. lol I'm also a timid driver. I'm only used to driving around tractors, cows, and other slow drivers.

Hi! The colors were weird in this video. The road and the buildings were too white, the trees were not so green... I don't know how to explain. I don't know if that's the real landscape look because of the sun position, or somehow your camera contrast settings were different this time.
@EuropeanRoads3 жыл бұрын
Yes that's right. The road has a really light texture and a I had to redo an earlier version of this video because the road was so bright it was almost white after uploading. KZbin compression also changes colors somewhat (making light lighter and dark darker: more nearby pixels with the same color to reduce data usage).
