Well, this explains a lot. This also happens in Tank Assault. I've seen it multiple times when trying to kill the driver on AI Abrams tanks. The round will basically just go through the driver without spalling or dealing damage to him and then just destroy the engine. This can happen regardless of range.

New Kungstiger also has this issue. Firing at the MG port from the driver side at a downward angle (inwards towards the tracks) with a T-34's 120mm produced zero spall in a live game

@@MuhammadAli-255 to be fair, it's really not like that bug was game breaking and destroyed the balance around where Ariete is. You can very easily kill or disable Ariete by just shooting it's turret because that's how piss poorly armored it is.

Maybe cause exactly at the same time this bug is happening there is another bug with all Abrams where the commander's cuppola is getting overpressured by HEAT shells. Gaijin gives 1 bug as a buff and 1bigger bug as a nerf for US tanks.

There is a bug that spall can't leave homogenous armor. Idk why. You can see it on leclerc mantlet very well, if you hot the portion that has homogenous armor behind it, it won't spall. Actually in hangar test view, the spall only travels *inside* the armor block.

It’s always important to keep in mind that while gaijin tries to model everything correctly and make it as real as possible. Most often everything is broken and isn’t working properly. I was so confused when I first had this happen. It's not just those sections, but if you aim for the driver himself there's a chance the shell does absolutely nothing until it impacts the engine deck. I got my 2A7HU and was so happy I finally had an MBT that wasn't utter trash for Italy (I never used the Arieties because they've always been slow and clunky). Only problem is their spall liner actually created the spall for the tank, which it seemed to create double spall cones and would instantly nuke your crew if they were touched (I think it was patched out by now).

Even if everything isn't modeled entirely correct in game, you have to wonder how these bugs even occur. Spaghetti code? A dev making a mistake? Same thing applies to the pixel sized armor holes.

Nah bro, that is what happens when you try to add volumetric. When you overcomplicate a system with a mechanic that did more harm than good, you'll continue to have problems with it. It's the same thing that allows panther's gun sight to eat shots like crazy, despite that spot being its only weakspot, apart from the cupola for anything that's not an IS-2. This happened with volumetric and this happened with realshatter (remember when fragmentation shells did no damage to aircraft?) And will happen again with basically any overly complicated mechanic gaijin will add. When you build your house on quicksand, don't be surprised that it will sink when you keep adding stuff in it.

Everyone shoots the turret ring or shoots high. If you shoot low at an Abrams and you dont shoot at the turret cheeks you're doing it wrong.

So, by your logic, to "do it right" i need to shoot at the turret cheek. Which, unless you use the obj 292, you will non-pen. On the abrams, you shoot turret ring or gun breach if you are close, or the turret roof with russian HE.
