Hi, you've made my day! When I was learning English, I often felt that words went on forever. I couldn't hear the gaps. When I started teaching Spanish, I realised my students were having the same problems I'd had with English. Ever since, I've included in my lessons all the tips I wish someone had given me back then.

Lee, thanks for the feedback. The secret to fast learning is to focus on one verse at a time. Say it out loud several times. The first few times will be really hard, but you'll soon get better. If you find a word particularly difficult to say, practise it on its own. Then say the whole sentence. Every bit of speaking practice is going to help you get there!

For me, as a life-long language learners, knowing the pronunciation of a language is essential. That's why I always include it in my lessons. I've never understood why other teachers pay so little attention to the sounds of the language they teach. If you want to be able to understand fast Spanish, knowing the sounds is what's going to help you the most.

I love that you used a Bible verse! I’ve needed to learn Spanish my whole life. I’ve randomly listened to Bible in Spanish. Please, would you do more on Bible verses! Saying something 15 times stores it in your short term memory saying something 25+ times stores it in your long term memory! Would you repeat the line more times! Also each word over and over and over to cement it in memory and thought! I understand if you want the lesson to be short but this repetition helps! Thank you so much! I also love the little lessons of other things to keep in mind “Iike when you said like “the O is always pronounced”! I’ll subscribe and watch it more times for my short term memory!

Sou católico não praticante. Mesmo assim, sempre achei a bíblia uma excelente ferramenta para aprender línguas. Tenho um Novo Testamento interlinear grego-português com este objetivo. Quando a tradução castelhana foi editada pela primeira vez? Ainda está em vigor esta versão?@@spanishwithmaria
@spanishwithmaria9 ай бұрын
@fabiolimadasilva33989 ай бұрын
Percebi o quão católicos são os espanhóis no dia de Nossa Senhora do Pilar, em Saragoça (Zaragoza) (2011). No Brasil, o direito autoral termina em cerca de 80 anos. Admito que a versão de King James tem o seu peso, mas nada como as versões em grego e hebraico... 😜

Could you please explain why “amó” is used here rather than “amaba”. Really great lessons. Thank you ❤
@spanishwithmaria4 ай бұрын
Simon, thanks for the great question. In this particular case, both "amó" and "amaba" are correct. I've chosen "amó" because of the rhythm it gives to the sentence in terms of the sounds. It's more musical when you read it out loud: "Porque tanto amó Dios al mundo". Grammatically, "amó" refers to the specific time when God decides to give his Son. Whereas "Amaba" would refer to before, during and after that decision. As you see, both could be used in this case. This other video of mine gives you a comparison of these two tenses: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3vIZnZpmK6ZeNUsi=ivP2YXsH_cJjmG_K

@@spanishwithmaria Thanks. I was thinking that maybe the use of preterit was because the love was the immediate cause of the giving. If you wanted to say something like “I liked cars so I bought one” in Spanish, would you use imperfect or preterit? Would it be the same if you said “I liked the car so I bought it”?
@spanishwithmaria4 ай бұрын
Simon, that's a great point when you say: maybe the use of preterit was because the love was the immediate cause of the giving. That's why both tenses can be used in this case. The imperfect would refer to an ongoing love before, during and after. That's why both tenses are correct. It's not always the case that you can use either tense, but this is a good example. To say: “I liked cars so I bought one” you need the imperfect "Me gustaban los coches, así que me compré uno". Whereas to say: “I liked the car so I bought it” the preterit is best "Me gustó el coche, así que me lo compré".

What confuses me is the putting of the verb before the noun
@spanishwithmaria9 ай бұрын
Susan, in "tanto amó Dios al mundo" the noun goes after the verb for emphasis. You could also say "Dios amó tanto al mundo", but the message would be less powerful. By putting "amó" (he loved) immediately after "tanto" (so much), we're emphasising the strength of that love. Let me know if that helps.
