The Mennonites in Ontario Canada have their own schools. There is no interference from the government. The Mennonites who moved to Belize were very brave and hard working people. They were pioneers and built a new community for themselves. Well done, exceptionally well done.

When the Mennonites came to Spanish Lookout it was just a wall of jungle. They walked through Belize River through shoulder deep water to get to the land that they bought. Land that they bought at market value, from a private owner. The next day they began developing what Spanish Lookout is today, by chopping down the jungle and growing crops, over time growing different and diverse industries. To where today 1000's of Belizeans and refugees from Central America are living and employed in and around Spanish Lookout. At 12:20 you hear Henry Penner read the original agreement the Mennonites had with the government. The Menonites are willing and ready to pay for themselve the expenses it takes to settle in Belize. Mennonites will farm and grow crops both for themselves and for the common market. Subject themselves as citizens and subject of the laws of (then) Brithish Honduras. Pay ALL normal fees duties, taxes and customs fees, estate tax property tax and income tax! Bznrebel Did you not watch this video? Or are you just blinded by lies. Spanish lookout did not get any special treatment! They never have gotten special treatment. Yet they are responsible for some of the biggest local industries in Belize. Spanish Lookout employs 1000's of Belizeans. Spanish Lookout pays all the taxes that any Belizean pays and on top of that they have an additional tax for the residence of Spanish Lookout which is used for road infrastructure electrical plants, and paying their own townships and leaders. Spanish lookout does NOT get any support to build roads as virtually every village in Belize does, and we won't ask for it.

So interesting. My late father-in-law was a retired Mennonite pastor. My in-laws were so very kind and loving to this "Anglish" girl their son married. In years past, my father-in-law wanted to take his family to Brazil to settle a colony there. Personally, I'm glad they didn't. I would have never met my husband, the love of my life.
